Just been catching up on your diary after not being on for a couple of months. Sounds like you've had a right rollercoaster of a time. I really hope that things are ok for you and your family.

Thanks CCL and lovely to ‘see’ you back. No, it’s not been a great few months unfortunately, but then again I’m used to things going t^ts up and would probably be suspicious if things went right for a change! Hope you managed to have a nice Christmas xx

I’ve sent £150 from the tax credits to the savings today, alongside the normal £50 SO and the £50 H2S payments too. Total savings now equal £5525. I’m over halfway to the £10k target I’d like to reach before restarting the mortgage overpayments in earnest again. It pains me not OPing the mortgage, but I think it’s wiser to have a decent amount saved first.Christmas was ok. DS had a lovely time and that’s the main thing. It was quite chilled, OH and I didn’t bother with Christmas lunch as DS had it at his Dad’s. I actually enjoyed not having to faff with all that tbh, although if someone had turned up with a Christmas dinner for me I wouldn’t have turned it down, but not surprisingly that didn’t happen! In fact we didn’t have any lunch, just a bit of light breakfast and some party food with DS in the evening. It didn’t really feel like Christmas but I was surprisingly fine with that and got through it. In fact, my lack of ‘being bothered’ about these things is concerning me a bit tbh, I seem to have lost my mojo for everything and really can’t be bothered with anything. I need to snap out of it as it’s getting me down and I feel a bit like I’m wasting my days. I feel like I need to be doing more with DS too and making the most of everything more. Just not finding it easy atm. 😕Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,956.86

You have had a lot on with worries about your parents, lockdown and the house situation so not surprising you are feeling a bit down especially at this time of year. You are doing great with finances so be kind to yourself. Glad your DS had a nice time at Christmas and maybe try and plan some fun stuff to do with him when you are able. Even just a games night or film night at home with popcorn or chocolate if you are Tier 4.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. All of the regular income for the month has hit the bank account now so I’ve been able to add another £75 to the premium bonds account bringing the total savings up to £5600 now.
I’ve also shuffled another £100 to my gifts savings pot to make that up to £250 (not included in the savings totals above) as I need to think about buying for DS and OH’s birthdays soon. The house insurance is due at the end of February but there’s more than enough in the house/car pot to cover that too.Mortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,956.86

I’ve spent a bit of money today from the ‘spends’ budget and ordered some chunky shelves, brackets, storage jars and cup hooks to create a bit of much needed extra storage in the kitchen/utility room. If we’re going to be staying here longer now then I may as well make the house work better for us and I’ll be taking them with us to our next house when we do eventually move. I bought them on eBay and used my nectar points to get £10 off.£50 of DS’s Christmas money has gone into his junior ISA this week, leaving £10 for him to spend if he wants to buy anything. He also had vouchers to spend for various shops/sites so can spend those as he wishes. I’m really pleased with the amount he has in there now, he’s richer than me! I’ll be building that account up to £10K (around £7.5K in there now) and then will look at opening another savings account to save into for him so that everything is not in the one account. I’d like to stagger the ages at which he receives the savings, so I’m not entirely sure where to save into. It’s something I need to investigate.I cooked a YS chicken in the slow cooker today and which has fed DS and I and OH will have some later. It will probably make a few more meals for OH and I over the next few days too as DS is off to his Dad’s again tomorrow. We’re not fans of NYE at the best of times so have no plans for tomorrow. In fact, my idea of a great NYE would be an early night and catching up on some sleep. I’m permanently shattered these days.Happy New Year to everyone, I hope and pray 2021 brings everybody better times. XxMortgage @ 03/2019: £125,000, Now: £51,956.86
