  • If you've ever seen it they reminded me of the the gy in monty python's holy grail where he says........

We built a castle, it sank into the swamp.
We built another castle, that burnt down, fell over then sank in to the swamp. But the third one stayed up!

How do people get from around £2k for a buget and overspend by £30k or so?

How can you borrow that much money in the first place without a bank going "Hang on, how are you planning to pay this back"?

I do however wish last nights couple sucess.

Thats very charitable! I wouldn't wish anyone ill, but its refreshing to see a few of these coming through where The Idiots are not cushioned from crash-landing purely because of the bouyant market. Someone posted the other day (on this thread?) about how tiresome it is to watch these morons blindly crash through a development and think they should get a gold star even though had they done nothing at all the property would have given them the same return over the timeframe.

I loved Beanies comment at the start along the lines of 'a strong market has given rise to a wave of amateur property developers having a go' and neglected to add that its that very show thats contributed to this phenomenon!

    Hi

Were they not selling 2 or 3 properties here and one in Dubai? Plus cashing in some shares. They then borrowed from friends when it all went pear shaped.

I can't begin to describe how it pleases me to see them struggle after all the arrogant comments they made. (the builder who pulled out gave us a clue as to their attitude.)

Looking at the property listings on Findaproperty, I know F**xtons charge 2.5% and on my street they put properties on for 10-20000 more than local agents. So I don't know what they do with a £1mil+ property although of course the vendors could be driving the price to recoup expenditure.
  • Loving this thread....i'm a straight girl and even I find the beeny sexy!

But, on a more serious note, I'm an estate agent (I know, I know), and one of my colleagues once appeared on Property Ladder to give one of the end values....and sorry to dissapoint everyone, but they are all told exactly what figure to say...so, it's not the agents faults when the figures come out with such huge differences. Property Ladder do their own research, and then give the agents a figure....(at least that's what i've been told)

Anyway it was only a minor point, but one I thought you all might like to know, carry on with the beany love.....

    .....

At last, someone talking about the main selling point of Property Ladder, namely the ever sexy Queen Been. :)

Only an agent with a serious lack of integrity would agree to such a thing. Are you sure your colleague didn't say this because of the wild valuation they gave?
Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.

Oh come on guys .... it's a TV programme :D It's not as if the "developers" (ahem ;) ) have appointed the agents concerned.

Some of them are probably actors or members of the production team and not even "real agents" :D
