I usually just bung a bit of supermarket bought ginger in a pot when it starts to sprout .Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0

Ginger is very easy to grow. Good job, as my son asked me to grow it for him. This year I grew many different chilli types plus tomatoes for him. I can't remember what I did with the ginger but I will have another go at it. It is extremely good for you. My son wants it for his curries but it is good for so many things; travel sickness and stomach problems being two I can think of.
Not sure about Lemon Grass but it will be on the Internet somewhere.0 -
Ah brilliant thanks for this, we love thai cooking which uses both of these, but ginger is also good in juices and smoothiesHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. I stuck some ginger in a pot last year and got some leaves. When they died down I dug them up and had mini ginger roots, which I just replanted. I now have a shoot coming up again. I will check out the links posted as the only ones I found were american about growing it out doors and leaving it 2 years to harvest, but when established that was you ginger just to dig up when you needed it. In Scotland that is never going to happen so I thought big pots.It is the job that is never started that takes the longest to finish. Tolkien.Save 12k in 2025 No 18 365 1p challenge 2025 No 20

Think I may just bung some in a pot on a windowsill and see what happens. Shame I don't have a greenhouse!0

It takes a long time to mature, especially in the english sorry, scottish climate. It is a tropical plant, but, there is a banana tree with fruit in Peterborough, so you never know.............Loving the sunny days!0
