Growing Ginger

To my shame :-[, ive left a piece of ginger so long that it has sprouted. in the spirit of MSE, does anyone know how i could grow it on even if only as a pot plant?

lie it on the soil with the roots downwards and see what happens

I thought about that , but as a tropical? plant and were coming into autumn i thought better of it. but sticking it in soil in a pot it would prbably rot :-/. i just hate to see something trying to survive that i cant bin it

i always throw sprouting things into pots ::)

then I have constant pototes....and things - as they don't rot so much in the soil!!!!

i use a strawberry planter or the larger pots where I have killed off the previous plants.....

and I chuck them in...put soil on top....and then let them grow....have mainly done the little new potatoes or salad potoatoes or I think it was Anya (a nutty flavoured one) in fact all the pototoes I have that sprout.....
