For a £600 item I'd not order it unless I was 100% sure I was going to be home to take delivery.
The Amazon locker system (repeatedly mentioned) is the obvious solution for high value items or for when the customer knows they will not be at home.

Court action against Amazon in this situation is very definitely NOT recommended.
Why is that, other than the fact that they will close the OP's account?

All these people saying use Amazon lockers, that is not always possible.

My closest locker is half hour away, and if someone doesnt drive etc that is not a viable option.

That said, for a £600 item, I would definitely made sure I was in or arranged someone to be in for delivery, with all the tracking Amazon give nowadays it's easy to see what time roughly your parcel will arrive.

Because if you'd had it set to allow delivery to an alternative location, and they claim to have delivered to that location, then it would be for the consumer to prove that they hadn't.

If you don't have any alternative delivery settings then they must deliver to the address stated else it isn't delivered.

There are other options (Pass my Parcel, Local Collect and Doddle)

I'm just intrigued as to how the rogue delivery drivers / neighbours only seem to pinch expensive laptops and smartphones. Never seen a thread on here where aquarium sponge filters/ kids colouring books/ any of the myriad items that Amazon sell go AWOL when marked as delivered - just laptops and smartphones ......

Perhaps online retailers should make all their parcels a similar size and weight so it's impossible to tell what they contain? :D

This happened with my sisters Ebay parcel and they refunded her after the neighbours denied receiving it, and this was tracked with the neighbours signature, i don't know how often this goes on but a neighbour who signs for it should not get away with taking the goods.

Ohhh come on. If I never asked Amazon to deliver to neighbours and they do but it goes missing..............what's it to do with me?

Let Amazon take the neighbour to court.

Lets say I am the neighbour some driver says I took it in but has no sig...........what that to do with me?

Just to add I have lived at the same house for 24 years..................always taken deliveries in, maybe one or two a week with only one or two issues.

Either you've misread something or I have ;)

AIUI, op didn't have it set up to allow them to deliver to a neighbour or safe place although he has (after this went missing) set it up so they can deliver to one particular neighbour.

I believe that might be why jimmy is questioning why its not recommended. I mean sure they could close OP's account but I think most people wouldn't want to lose £600 to keep it.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
