I left Talktalk because I was dissatisfied with their broadband service and because Which? confirmed that many other customers were also dissatisfied with them.
I also dislike the fact that they seem to withhold information from you. You cannot find anything on your account page about the duration of your contract. When you phone them to find out, they try to sell you additional products and don't explain the costs clearly unless you ask them directly.
When you tell them you are terminating your contract, they are at first cajoling and then threatening. They said they would not provide a MAC code, that I may lose my phone number and that I may have my service disconnected. A timid customer might be frightened by this. I did not like doing business with Talktalk and I am glad to be shot of them.0 -
By law, they must provide a Mac, within 5 days, if requested0

Hi, Folks
Currently about to complete a fantastic 18 month deal with Orange Broadband - where I was getting "Simply Broadband" for £10 per month (instead of the usual £15 p.m.) due to being an Orange mobile customer
- but instead of the £180 (18 months x £10), I paid about £80 in total - as I went via Topcashback, who were offering £100 Cashback (which was honoured).
Effectively I was paying just over £4 per month for 8 Meg broadband and Unlimited downloading!
I am now no longer with Orange Mobile (switched to TalkMobile) - and my Orange Broadband contract is set to expire next month.
I now am looking for a similar deal.
However, as I am on Jobseeker's Allowance - I get B.T. Basic (£4.50 or so per month) phone-line rental - so obviously I don't want to have to switch away from my B.T. Basic package.
I am a paying SKY TV customer - is it worth asking them what they can do? However, it seems to get a "good" broadband from them, you have to also take your phoneline with them? Which is why I left Sky broadband some years back...as I find B.T. do not block you using 0844-dial-through numbers to make cheap international calls (whereas Sky did).
B.T. Basic does not allow 0844-dial-through numbers either - BUT the line rental is so damn cheap, it matters not to me.
Any companies currently giving Unlimited broadband download for the same amazing £4 or so that Orange gave me?
Also - since I am with Talkmobile - are they part of TalkTalk?0 -
Hi all,
I have a BT line connected.
I want to use the BT connection for internet only - I do not want or need a landline phone service.
Can this be done:
i.e If the BT line is connected - can I just pay a broadband provider for the broad band service *without* having to pay extra for phone line rental?
Many thanks,
Leonardo.0 -

Of course you can, i have always done it since dial up days.
ie have been with https://www.yourcalls.net for phone and line rental for 6 years, prior to that a number of other providers including TT, Tiscali etc. Not once have i had broadband with any of these and never intend doing so.
From memory and well have left a few out i have been with V21, Biscuit, adsl24, o2 and currently ending webtapestry.0 -
I'm very disappointed with MSE's statement on this thread http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-broadband#primusbroadband ...
Factor all costs in over the year’s contract and it’s £7.57/month.
They haven't factored in that you need to spend that amount and more simply to 'rent' a landline! How can MSE campaign against airlines etc. not quoting the full amount in their headlnie rate when it is doing the same?0 -
Just remember folks, anyone signing up to plusnet gets to talk to a technician based in Sheffield (or the last time I wanted help it was). This is worth £££s if you really need help.0

I've been paying far too much for virgin media phone and broadband. Sometimes my bill is £65+ a month.
Following MSE's link here, have managed to get Broadband (up to 20GB usage), and free evening, and weekend calls for £13.99 monthly (including line rental) with Primus. Different from the deal mentioned, but double the data allowance, plus telephone (with free calls evening and weekends), obtained through clicking on the hyperlink (via MSE's link).:T
I just spoke to their customer services, and was informed these are upgradeable if I so wish. Very happy, and impressed with customer services so far. Very helpful.New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!0
