    have virgin gone tight??

They seem to have, mine was disconnected last night, now on O2 LLU @ £8/mth, compared to them wanting £15/mth for 10Mbit, BB only.
    Move along, nothing to see.

As someone wrote, 'there's the rub', I want high speed, but don't need it, :)

I managed with the original 2Mbit, 10 Mbit was very nice for downloading Linux distros in 11 minutes, but I'll cope with 5/6Mbit.

In your case, you have to make the choice, pay up or move, because they do seem to be adopting a tougher attitude, possibly after monitoring the tactics used by members of this site. :D

I will see in 12 months where I go, if enough people leave, then they'll be back to going all out to obtain/retain customers.

    It's called economics. :)

    A warning about Plus.Net:

I placed my order for home phone and broadband with Plus.Net two weeks ago, but my broadband status is still "checking your line". I called up and said "why is it taking so long", to which I got the response "there was a fault on our end and your order did not go through. I'll put the order through now, but you'll have to wait another 5-7 days".

Needless to say - not happy. If they don't give me my money back for the time that I was without internet, I will be moving away instantly as fortunately I did not sign up to a contract.

i am with PN too and recommended them to my sis who has just moved into a flat. however she too has experienced the same issue as above. we contacted them via their online support and got back:

    Dear......,
Thank you for your query, I have checked your account and unfortunately there seems to have been an error our system which has delayed your broadband order being placed. I have now rectified this issue and processed the order so your broadband will be activated in the next 5 - 7 working days.....

So just be aware guys. She did the order to start the day after her phone line was to have been set up, so my be an idea to double check the PN order a day or 2 before your line goes 'live'.

Pretty sweet deal! Only open to new Orange customers though, if you are already with them you only get £15 cashback. Also on the TCB site plenty of people are complaining about the cashback not tracking. Still, it's got to be worth a punt at that price.

And also check a guide to Oranges ratings HERE .

So £19/year, with cashback, my O2 LLU will be £22/year. I know which I prefer.

  • Just to let you know that your BT broadband packages info on prices is out of date on this site.

I recently rang up to cancel my account with BT as considering Orange &BT offered me a £15pm discount on Broadband (unlimited 100GB fair use pm) & anytime call package (no limit on minutes) (usually£4.99 standalone). Only catch is a 12 month contract. This has been offered since 1st November I was told by BT.

Total cost is £12.99 pm for both BB & calls plus line rental at £9.99 pm paid yearly. Unless you want lower monthly usages for BB & calls BT now seem to be the best value on the market for unlimited use although I only get 4mbps rather than 20mpbs possible.

My only complaints are,; why havent they offered it to me sooner, & why dont they advertise this package so that all their customers can get this deal, or simply offer it to everyone automatically!

Unfortunately it seems BT is following the lead of the banks, & energy suppliers where unless you complain you get left on either uncompetitive interest rates for savings (the banks) or overpriced old meter tariffs for your energy bills. These sort of practices have been going on too long & should be regulated against! Otherwise such firms will continue to treat the majority of their customers as simply mugs who they came squeeze some extra cash from.
  • I'm pretty happy with a deal I got from O2 the other day. I was on a BT line with 8Mb O2 broadband (I actually got 7Mb), with unlimited downloads for £7.50/month (incl. the £5/month discount for being an O2 mobile user) plus my BT line rental of £13.29/month. Total = £20.79.

I'm now on 20Mb broadband (in reality I get just over 12Mb), a 20GB monthly usage limit, plus O2 home phone line rental and unlimited eve and w/end local and national calls, all for a discounted £14.50/month on a 12-month contract.

Pros = Savings of £6.29 month, plus I've gained faster broadband and free weekday evening local and national calls
Cons = I now have a 12-month contract, a monthly usage cap of 20GB and I lost free weekend 0870/0845 calls at the weekend (from BT)
  • Hello,

While I like to think I'm savvy when it comes to bank accounts and mortgages, I have no idea when it comes to phones/broadband.

I have BT Total package, using their line rental, and it costs me 131 pounds per quarter. I suspect this is too much, however previously didn't care as my employer paid for it. Now my employer has got tight, and has stopped paying, I'm hoping for a better deal.

My two criteria are 1) high reliability as broadband for working from home, and 2) unlimited download limit as I'm a very heavy user.

Is there a better package out there for me?

    Thanks in advance
