There is no mention in the article of not having an active BT line.
I have a BT socket in my house, but it is not active as I have a Virgin TV/phone/broadband bundle.
I am moving house next week to a house wihout a Virgin connection, but which also has a BT socket.
What are my best options? I don't really want to sign an 18-month BT contract as it is 1) expensive, and 2) I may only be there about 15 months before moving again.
Suggestions?

O2+Line Rental Saver will probably be the best bet if you don't need to pay a reconnection fee. If you do, then basically the price will be doubled0 -
I'm researching various broadband providers and discovered a good deal with Orange (if you are an existing Orange pay as you go or pay monthly customer).
The broadband is £9 per month, unlimited download, free wireless router. I live in an area which doesn't have access to cable or fast speeds (our average is around 2Mb download speed!) and it has been confirmed that I can receive the £9 deal. Also, if you are recommended by a friend, both you and the friend receive £50 credit on your broadband bills and £15 on your PAYG phone (not sure about contract).
Do this via topcashback and you can get £70 cashback making it a good deal if I've researched it correctly!0 -

Very true! I'm willing to give it a try - the low speeds won't be a problem as I've never found a provider that delivers fast speeds in our area anyway! As for the customer service - I've been an Orange phone customer for 12 years so I'm well accustomed with their complaints department....0 -
A warning about Plus.Net:
I placed my order for home phone and broadband with Plus.Net two weeks ago, but my broadband status is still "checking your line". I called up and said "why is it taking so long", to which I got the response "there was a fault on our end and your order did not go through. I'll put the order through now, but you'll have to wait another 5-7 days".
Needless to say - not happy. If they don't give me my money back for the time that I was without internet, I will be moving away instantly as fortunately I did not sign up to a contract. You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.0 -
Just in case there are any of you still using BT Broadband (it doesn't look like it from this thread!), I've just renewed my contract for another 12 months, and managed to get Option 3 for £15.49 per month (normally £22.99).
You may have got even better, I don't know, but I just thought I'd let anyone who is stuck with BT Broadband (like me!) know what offers you can get.
Oh, and they also threw in a new Home Hub and Hub Phone - without prompting! I was staggered!0 -

BT Broadband resell the BT Wholesale ADSL products so if you can get BT Broadband you can also get just about any of the hundreds of other (and for the most part better) ISPs operating in the UK market as they too can use the BTw product as a basis for their service.
Er, yes, thanks for that. I was actually referring to my use of BT Vision, the Freeview/PVR/On-Demand TV box, which can only be used with a BT Broadband account.
I appreciate there are other digital TV services available or that I could simply purchase a standalone PVR but I'm pretty happy with BT Vision and I can't be bothered with the hassle of changing.
So I'm less "stuck" with BT and more "mildy ahered".0 -
Fair enough. You'd be surprised how many on this board think they can only get BT broadband so if I see anything suggesting that is the case I always post a correction.0

Oh god now Royal Mail have lost my router. I have a "we called but you were out" card, but when I go down to the delivery office they can't find the package.
Got a text to say my broadband is up and running (after 3½ weeks might I add) but without a router it's not much use! Plus.Net only send your router standard 1st Class post, and so I have to wait 15 days before it's officially lost and I can make a claim. You're spelling is effecting me so much.
