I did get a call from an 02 rep who was promoting 02 Broadband while giving me an additional discount as I am a Pay Monthly customer. What has anyone's experience with 02 Broadband been like? Is it as good as their mobile operating network?

It's because your telephone exchange has not been unbundled and BT wholesale are still charging other providers an arm and a leg.

Try to find out when they expect to unbundle it if you can.

The information on this site should really have a caveat to point out that the low price from O2 is only available in unbundled exchanges.

Hi There, Can anyone help me by suggesting cheap broadband (mobile). I've had to sell the house due to hubby being stupid, and am moving up north until he sorts himself out. The mobile signal up there is pants no matter who I look at - but can anyone recommend mobile broadband with a little usb plug-in thing, that is fairly cheap short term... just until I get moved and sorted. I want to get hubby to cancel his business service as he is closing down/ceasing trading and I'm not paying anymore bills. Like a twit I had to pay last quarter £152 - which came out of my redundancy money but I'm not paying anymore - but I desperately need broadband so I can keep looking for jobs and keep in contact with creditors!!!!

Please can anyone suggest any thant I can look at?

Please don't recommend phones4u - I've already had a part refund from them for mis-sale and will be writing to them (and copying trading standards and ofcom if necessary) to get the rest of my money back!!!!

I recently moved into a new flat in London, which had no telephone service although a BT master socket was installed.

I got the free BT line installation at £11.25 (online, paper-free account) for 18 months; minimum monthly calls apply.

For internet, I got a free pay as you go O2 sim card, topped-up £10 and applied through Quidco for a 12 months contract O2 Standard Home Broadband at £7.34/month; first two months free (real cost per month £6.12). Quidco currently offer £50 for each genuine tracked transaction completed wholly online.

To keep getting the £7.34/month internet, I must top-up £10 on my O2 sim, every three months. This means that in 12 months I have to spend £40 on the O2 sim. As Quidco offer £50 for O2 broadband (see above) I am £10 richer and get £40 worth of calls with O2 amongst other freebies and promotions, etc. My £50 cashback through Quidco has now been validated and will be paid in October 09.

O2 sent me a free wireless router and kept me informed as to their progress in activating my internet service. All dates they gave where correct. My service was activated yesterday (20/08/09) approximately 10 days from application.

I now have a downloading speed of 9.6 meg and uploading at 1.1 meg both measured with Thinkbroadband yesterday (20/08/09).
O2 has no downloads limits (fair usage applies) and you get free McAffee security software, which you can install on all your computers.

I could have gone with Plusnet's £5.99/month but the contract is 18 months, the download limit is restricted during the day and they charge £5.99 p&p for the wireless router.

As they say on TV: simples!

I have just been trying to improve my Tiscali stand alone broadband subscription (£14.67) and checked out Plusnet's £5.99 which when you dig into it is only in Phone Exchange Market 3 areas which I believe are " rather thin on the ground" beware as the cost is considerably more! By doing a phone and Broadband bundle with Tiscali I can reduce my monthly charge to £9.99 a month but it took several hours of digging arround, good job I am not charging myself an hourly rate ! (It is my day off !!!)

hi all, been reading through trying to make sense but still at bit lost. Here is my predicament hopefully someone can help.

Ok here goes
I have just moved into a rented accomadation in Topsham, exeter check the exchange LLU and i can only get Virgin or TalkTalk (i was a Virgin customer before moving area).
I have a BT main telephone line installed with a dial tone but when i ring BT to find out about getting internet and telephone they say i don't have a line there. which i obviously do. So if a new line needs to be added i have to pay £125 to get it installed. However Virgin say that i have to pay £60 installation fees to get there products installed as they pay £30 to BT to check the line etc, and £30 to there guys.

I really don't know what to do as i am totally confused with it all.

All i want is
a basic phone line Evening and weekend calls free or cheap
a internet line 6-7megs as that is the fastest i can get, i am quite a heavy user so would like either unlimited or a big download limit. ( i watch a lot of online TV shows, iplayer, and other streaming sites)

Can any please help

One option not mentioned is to borrow someone elses broadband;- for a couple of years I lived at a house where I could pick up nextdoors wireless, so I just asked and chipped in to the cost, everybody wins ( I wasn't a large downloader - but did play a few online games, skype etc but we never had any problems)

Hi, I was reading through what deals each of you had and thought i'd tell you the deal I have. At the present time I have a mobile contract with T-mobile it costs me £25 each month for 18 months i have a £400 phone which I got for free providing i keep the contract going for the 18 months (The sony Ericsson C905). I get £140 credit (balance) to spend on anything which is good as i'm not limited to texts or calls (its the FlexT Deal). However I also get rewards every 3 months anyway which are free texts and or calls which is good. Although the main point of my post is that I also get mobile internet free unlimited for the phone. Although there is a deal with T-mobile that if you have unlimited mobile internet you can get the 3gb mobile broadband package for just £4.57 I think it is, which bring my total bill to £29.57 either way under £30. So i'm really paying £4.57 for my broadband. They also offer incentives to get friends to sign up giving you like £50 cashback etc. Anyway to conclude I pay £4.57 for my mobile broadband and normally have speeds of 1-4 megabytes per second which is just like a normal wireless connection. I use my mobile phone as the modem and can still use all functions on my mobile whilst connected to my PC.

Hey i was looking through what you said and was wondering why do virgin need to check your BT line? that sounds wrong. They are a cable company they don't use a landline to give customers broadband. Virgin media is your best bet for cheap unlimited data downloading as a heavy user myself and being a previous virgin customer they are probably the right choice for you. The installation costs are normally £30 anyway but you shouldn't be paying another £30 for them to check BT as it has nothing to do with them.

Because they are not now in a cabled area! Read before posting.

Virgin also supply broadband via a BT line.
