I was thinking of joining Bethere.co.uk as it was recommended on MSE's main cheap broadband page, but just noticed something that looks like a scam in their terms and conditions... If you look carefully in the terms and conditions it says you MUST return all apparently FREE equipment back to them (router, cables, microfilters etc.) after you leave them, regardless of when you leave them (even if it's after your contract) or there is a £100 automatic charge(???!?) - I've just rang them to double check this and they even confirmed this to me on the phone.
LOL - Absolutely ridiculous - I can see ALOT of people being scammed by that.
I've always been able to keep all equipment from an ISP after the contract period and 'Be' do advertise the equipment as being FREE as part of the deal...(??)
Why isn't this mentioned on MSE's broadband recommendation page??
I don't think I'll be joining them anymore as if they choose to sting you when you leave, it will cancel out any positives they're offering...0 -
tazman.....where is the problem? I'm with O2 (same company) and the router they sent went straight into my loft, they can have it back whenever they like. They clearly state it remains their property...so no big deal ?!Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

1. How can they say it's FREE, when they don't even allow you to keep it?
2. Alot of people will get stung as they don't make it clear that it needs to be returned - I had to carefully look through the small print... and even then I wasn't 100% until I rang them.
3. I don't need their router or equipment, but what worries me is that after 12 months time, people will forget/not know to return the equipment or it may get lost in transit or they could just say they never received all of it. It's too easy for them to sting people with that clause IMO.
4. The normal wireless routers and equipment you get from ISPs are worth a fair bit of money usually and need to be taken into account as part of the deal. You can normally sell them on afterwards as they're normally your property.
Why would they have such a clause if they weren't planning on catching people out? I've never seen any ISP do that and I've been with quite a few.0 -
Hi. 1st time on here so apologies upfront if my question is on the wrong part or the site/forum thread. Any guidance is much appreciated.
I have an £18/mth land line contract which i don't use at all for telephone calls, it is just there for internet access. I pay another £18/mth for broadband. My question is: can I get rid of my land line and current broadband supplier (both of which are with KCOM, which is the only land line/fixed line broadband option in the Hull area), and just get a laptop & mobile broadband modem?
Additionally, my wife has an O2 mobile contract which needs renewing, as it is £22.50 for just 200 mins/texts. I thought a new mobile contract which offers a free laptop, together with a mobile broadband contract would come to around £40-£45/mth, compared to the £60 we currently pay for fixed land line, broadband & mobile. So to clarify, is this do-able and if so does anyone know the best value way to do it (200 mins/texts and 5-10GB would be sufficient). Thanks0 -
No mention of Be Internet in the article, Be Value now 8 meg download, unlimited usage £14 monthly, Be unlimited, 24meg! download unlimited usage £18 a month.

hi there all
iv just read the broadband email.0 -
See https://www.samknows.com and enter your phone number in the availability checker to see if anyone has LLU services in your exchange - these are usually cheaper than IP broadband.
Cheers

Hi, JF, and welcome to the forum
Without being rude (honest!) you'd be best starting a new thread with your question, where it's much more likey to get the attention it needs and deserves.
My opinion is...you live in Hull...that's not a good start (nothing wrong with Hull...but KC are...erm...you know)
The usual starting point would be a samknows search...but you live in Hull
Mobile broadband is certainly an option, usually an expensive one...but...you live in Hull...so it may be cheaper than the alternative
You might be best looking at keeping the broadband separate to the laptop...that "free" laptop is probably quite expensive over the duration of the contract.
Best advice - move house to anywhere but Hull (or a small area of Cambridgeshire), ideally right next door to an exchange which has been unbundled by sky or O2

I'm sorry I don't understand the above.
I've checked my phone/post code and it shows this.
What does it mean "that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection"?
Congratulations, you are in a broadband enabled area.
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
The following services are available in your location:
BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Orange LLU (Formerly Wanadoo)
Virgin Media (Cable)
Please select the options on the left for more information about broadband availability at your location.0 -
@ cobra...
it means you already have adsl (broadband from someone)...not a problem at all
the advice, from almost anyone, for you now would depend on whether you subscribe to sky tv or have an O2 mobileUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
