LLU is a service provided over the providers network and not BTs network. As this means the provider does not pay BT rental on your behalf for the service is is generally a cheaper alternative.

it means you already have adsl (broadband from someone)...not a problem at all
the advice, from almost anyone, for you now would depend on whether you subscribe to sky tv or have an O2 mobile :)

    Thank you database.
I'm new to this so please forgive me.
They didn't have PC's im my days.
We were taught on slates and chalk :rotfl:

I'm still on Analogue TV with Virgin paying £16.50 pm. (No Contract)
I'm still on BT telephone paying £11.50 pm (No Contract)
I'm still on AOL for broadband paying £9.99 pm (No Contract)
I'm still on Orange 200 mins + 100 texts (contract ends March 2009)
I need to change all to get a better deal.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks
  • Moneysavers, beware.....whilst you can get the PLUSNET Broadband for as little as £5.99 a month, it DEPENDS ON YOUR LOCATION! The small print states that it starts at £5.99 per month but ALSO states "IF YOU LIVE IN ONE OF OUR LOW COST AREAS YOU WILL PAY THIS PRICE EVERY MONTH. IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE ONE OF THESE AREAS YOU WILL PAY £5.99 FOR THE FIRST THREE MONTHS AND £11.99 A MONTH THEREAFTER." :(

It is also not easy finding out which location one falls into. I have tried and failed to do so. How one finds out, is difficult, to say the least!

You can find out if you have PlusNet in your area at the beginning of the application and if that isn’t much help then try phoning. They should tell you which criteria you fit.

I’ve been with PlusNet for nearly a year now and they seem fine, I lost connectivity once but that was resolve quite quickly.

I could apply for the PlusNet Value but as I’m already a customer I won’t be qualifying for their free wireless box, unless someone knows of a loophole of course without me having to cancel.

By the way, you'll get £28 cashback for applying for PlusNet through Quidco.

I signed up with "madasafish" over two years ago, a BT Wholesale reseller.
This company has since been taken over by BT.

For the first 18 months I was very happy, and after snipping the redundant wires in my home extension wiring, I got over 4 Mbps ("Meg") at a distance of 2 miles from the exchange.

During the two plus years, several LLU suppliers have set up at my local exchange, including Be & Talk Talk.

My broadband is now subject to repeated "drop-outs" three or four times per day.
For the first 18 months loss of the signal happened perhaps once in 6 weeks.

Is this likely to be all down to BT's dodgy joints and interference on the local loop between me and the exchange?

If I migrate to one of the LLU suppliers, would that improve things?

If I swap providers and get an even worse service, do I have to pay a 3 figure sum to swap back to BT?

    Harry.

that'll explain the obsession with colour and font size :)

If I were you (and I'm not...obviously) I'd be getting a PAYG O2 phone...or a contract one with O2 and dumping orange...and going with the cheap O2 broadband deals that are around..

more looking at your last post...analogue TV from virgin? BT line..I'm confused?????!!!

I've been with NTL for some 15 years.
I used to have a business so had a separate phone NTL line but due to disability was forced to abandon my business so kept the BT line but still had TV. Now the whole world seems to have changed to digital so have to change from analogue to digital. I was happy with that but now Virgin has increased from £5.50 to £16.50 pm. I can not afford it so am looking for cheaper options.
Sorry about the colour font and size to 2.
I'll change the font smaller but keep to blue as I like it.
    Sorry.
  • Two brand new packages tear up previous records; both are from providers with good feedback & come with free wireless routers. Limited Download: Plusnet Value* is £5.99/mth on a 18 mth contract. Its download limit's a generous 10Gb a month, which should suit all but heavy gamers, downloaders, or online TV watchers.
I'm quite suprised that Martin's newsletter is promoting Plusnet at £5.99 per month because it's only for 3 months as an introductory offer, then it goes to £11.99 per month thereafter!
    Wasn't this researched first?

It's £5.99 every month if you are in the right place:

    * Plusnet Value broadband starts at £5.99 a month. If you live in one of our low cost areas then you'll pay this price every month. If you live outside of one of these areas then you'll pay £5.99 a month for the first 3 months and £11.99 a month thereafter.

I would have thought the newsletter would have advised us of this marketing ploy...
It doesn't seem value to those outside of the 'low cost areas'.

Yup - I've just (independently, having accidentally deleted Martin's email this week) signed up to that in NW London with £28 QuidCo (only tracked at £25); an important oversight that should have been mentioned as it's a bonus!

And yes, it's £5.99 for the whole term where I am.
