There's an illogicality to that, given the common ownership, and it wasn't the case when I did the same switch a few years back.

There may be some technical reason, but I can't think what it might be. Have you asked them to explain?

I have asked them, but no real reason, just Openreach doesn't work like that.

Did you switch to Fibre on Plusnet from fibre on BT or broadband.

Did the number originate with BT or elsewhere?

Number was a new number on BT installed just over a year ago.

Almost as though it's a catch to keep us on Fibre, when the I don't see the need for it.

Plusnet are saying this when trying to sign up to broadband.

We are not moving house just changing supplier.

They have today said if I signed up for fibre on plusnet, I will be able to keep the number.
I would avoid Plusnet then as this is rubbish. There is no link between the type of broadband product and the phone number transfer. This is just bad customer service.

And I say this a a Plusnet customer of 9 years standing. Avoid. There are others offering phone and broadband at competitive prices.

Oh and Plusnet are headline news at MSE now for their new billing system failures. https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2018/09/plusnet-customers-charged-twice-under-new-billing-system/

My SSE broadband and line rental is going up on 1st October, so I've tried signing up with Plusnet via the MSE link today - the MSE article says the blagged deal is valid until 27th Sep: £197.88 line rental cost when paid for the year paid up front, broadband free for the year, and then £75 cheque sent back to me, so broadband and line rental working out at £10.24/month for the year.

Has anyone actually managed to get the deal at that price? The link doesn't give me free broadband, it says £3/month for the first year, plus there's a set up fee (and no mention of the cash back anywhere, though it's definitely the MSE referral site, I can see it in the detailed web address).

Its probably not worth me switching to Plusnet if I am paying for broadband (albeit a reduced amount) and not getting the £75 cash back.

I tried this to see what it showed me (I'm not currently looking to switch - just to see if I can help) - I can't get beyond the "View Packages" button - I've tried in 2 browsers.

I do however see a "with £75 cashback" tag and "£0.00 activation fee applies" on the landing page

I signed up to the same deal last weekend and I'm in the 14 day cooling off period. Its now finished so I can't cross check with what was originally on the MSE site, but I'm almost certain it said that Plusnet would automatically send a cheque after the broadband had been set up.

I've read a few things on here about cashback from Plusnet going through and I realised that, although I'm sure it said on the website that £75 cashback was included, it doesn't seem to say that anywhere in the subsequent emails/letter I've received.

So I've just been in touch with them today to ask whether they can check if the £75 cashback is noted on my order, and they say I need to claim it via MSE. This doesn't seem to make sense, particularly as the deal is no longer on MSE and I've made the order. Surely it should be all through Plusnet now?

The person at Plusnet can't have actually checked my order specifically because I didn't give them any details, so perhaps this is a stock response. But, they just told me to contact MSE. So i'm a bit puzzled as to who I should be contacting here or what I should be telling them. Any suggestions?

Edit: Just seen that MSE have an email address for this. Any thoughts appreciated though or info from people that signed up to the same deal. If something has gone astray I'd prefer to get the order cancelled rather than try and challenge it when the contract has started!

My parents got a cheque 1-2 months after the plusnet broadband went live. But not everyone will have this experience

Good to know it does work, and this is kind of what I was expecting based on what was advertised as part of the deal. So it might all be fine! But, I'm just a little bit thrown by Plusnet saying they wo't be able to see it on my account from their end (and in which case how will they know to send the cheque once the broadband goes live?). I've found a cashback claim link for BT, but doesn't mention Plusnet.

Edit: more digging on the site helps and Plusnet menitoned in the FAQ!

I saw the £16.84 (£17) vodafone deal for 35mb fibre and very nearly signed up for it, but no they lost another customer.

No it was not the Amazon voucher hassle which normally puts me off (a straightforward credit to the account would suffice).

It was visiting the Vodafone site and finding they insist on a credit check

I REFUSE TO GO THROUGH A CREDIT CHECK WHEN I AM NOT TAKING CREDIT

Broadband is a utility, it can be cut off if a DD is not made and a charge would no doubt be made,

Several other suppliers do NOT do these credit checks so I will wait for them to do a good offer on MSE.

Sorry Vodafone, if I were buying a mobile phone from you and you were selling it to me over two years then fine, you would be providing credit, but there is no credit on broadband.

I avoid any utility company that does credit checks, not because I have a bad credit record but because I will not be subject to this.

If you get a phone line where you can make calls then you are receiving credit as you are paying in arrears.

Set up a premium rate number, get your friends to phone it 24/7 and then refuse to pay their phone bills, split the money 50:50, they can then disappear and do it again.
