The "How to get cheap broadband" page says the it is available only to Sky newbies but then says "you can't get it if you've had Sky b'band, line or TV in the last 12mths."
Likewise, Broadband Unbundled defines new customers as "those who don't currently have Sky TV, Line rental or broadband, and haven't had it in the last 12 months".
The Broadband Genie page clearly states "You must not have ever registered an account with Sky or Sky Broadband in order to qualify for this Gift Card."
Has anyone contacted them to let them know at unbundled@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

But there are 2 important caveats to your point there.
1.) This thread was started 11 years ago. What was say £20 then (which is what a few of the deals I scanned through were) is about £27ish now with inflation. There are cheaper deals around than £27 currently. And the minimum wage has risen by a larger percentage than that, so in effect BB is now cheaper than it was 11 years ago.
2.) Back then, ISPs didn't have to include LR in their headline price. So not all the low deals from 2007 are as low as they appear.
Maybe I am a bit bias in this situation though, as with all the price rises get out clauses and cashback, BB is much cheaper for me now!
Those are interesting points, they said on radio the other day that people are actually worse of now than they were in 2007. At the end of the day the bottom line is whether people can afford it. For some that will be a low income thing but those who earn more may also owe more because they have a mortgage to service a car or loan required for work etc. The 50p rise in minimum wage has been wiped out by higher food costs and extortionate energy price increases and don't get me started on rent.
The fact is that the broadband infrastucture is in place, they were able to offer good deals when they were investing now they choose not to because they do not have to.
One might have hoped the mobile phone companies would compete, it is an obvious new market for them but who now owns the broadband companies?
You are right that the vendors punished Ofcom for regulating them about line rental, just as they did when they had to not charge rip off prices for certain calls like 0345 0845 and 0800 on mobiles.
They saw it as an opportunity to rip us off more. I paid £24 for the year including line rental, that £5 deal included line rental as did the £65 deal and the £100 deal.
As I do not have broadband as I voted with my feet when they would not negotiate, so I watch the deals all the time, the deals have been rubbish.
I do not think you or the other people defending the grab your ankle companies are biased, I think you probably just have more disposable income and £20 a month is affordable to you.0 -

Are you having a laugh. Infltion has gone up by £7 has it? That's almost 33% increase in this time. Minimum wage hasn't increased anywhere near this much either. In 11 years BB is much more expensive than it ever was.0 -
If you count a probable increase in price years back moving to Fibre my BB and Line rental has decreased year on year .
Decrease as in the actual price i pay .
Current Fibre 1 is £7 pm .0 -

Must be true then! I suppose at least you didn't say 'I read it on Wikipedia'.....The 50p rise in minimum wage
50p? The MW has gone up over £2 per hour in the 11 years of this thread. You are right that the vendors punished Ofcom for regulating them about line rental,
Erm, I didn't say that at all. :rotfl:I think you probably just have more disposable income and £20 a month is affordable to you.
I can't afford a £100k car, or a 10 bed mansion with acres of land. Some people have more money than others. What's your point as it doesn't seem to relate to BB?Are you having a laugh. Nope no laughing at all. You can check it for yourself. Both points I have made you can easily verify. It's not a 33% increase because you have failed to take into account the fact it hasn't risen in 1 go.
But then I suppose why bother with facts when they don't support your argument......0 -

I've just confirmed this from here: https://www.ons.gov.uk/economy/inflationandpriceindices/timeseries/czbh/mm23
33% is there or there abouts (I came up with 32% in the 10 years from 2008-2017)0 -
What does it matter if the price hasn't increased in one go or not?
You are comparing then and now.
In 2010 inflation was aroud 3.5%, it since fell in the intervening years to near 0, today it is around 4%.
How is this a 33% cummulative increase?0 -

Here's an international comparison of broadband prices if it adds anything to the discussion ..... https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2017/11/uk-ranks-63rd-cheapest-world-broadband-internet-connectivity.html0
