I know us coming out of Europe properly at New Year is the least thing in people’s minds at the moment but at least we have a heads up of how some people react to the thought of shortages. My preps have been useful because we were on holiday when the lockdown started so we came back to a very different shopping experience and as we have a one bed flat and no outside space have moved in with DS1 so all my preps moved and have combined with what he had in. Luckily I’ve trained him well so although his kitchen contents were quite random we are eating well. It worries me how slapdash a lot of people are with their social distancing. I went to Asda for fresh stuff during the week and although really well organised with arrows everywhere loads of people were ignoring them and one women who was loudly telling her friends she was shopping for 3 different relatives who are on lockdown still stood closely with the friends she met there (still managing to leave very little space fir others to get by) I despair I really do.
Anyway to get back to my main point at least I know that as long as I keep a decent stock of a bit of everything in we won’t starve
Keep well and safe everyone

It's one helluva way to learn that you can live pretty well on much less than you thought to have in the kitchen but HWK keeps telling me that we're eating much better than we usually do on my 'waste nothing and use it all up' dishes. I'm using everything including the squeak to make sure we don't waste anything and got really cross yesterday as a batch of plain scones I made a few days ago had moulded in the storage container and I had to feed them to the birds, but at least they didn't go into the bin! I'm very conscious of making things stretch and overlapping tail ends of dishes into the next thing I make which is keeping waste down too. Our bins are almost empty, recycling almost non existent as I'm nursing along my tins and dry goods and the only area where waste is up is the compost bin which is benefiting from all the home cooked soups we're having and the fresh fruit we're having too. All in all this aspect of Covid-19 is an eye opener for the future IF there are continuing challenges in getting the food stuffs we need, I know that much can be made from very little and enjoyed too!6

we have virtually run out of overwintered lettuce in the garden now until the new crop grows and with a supermarket salad delivery a fortnight away I wandered round the garden yesterday picking sorrel leaves, endive, borage leaves, a few Swiss chard shoots and some young blackcurrant leaves to make a side salad. It was great.7

Interesting tiimes.
The tendency is this crisis was to turn inwards - which happenned everywhere.
What I can see is covid provided the perfect excuse for splashing money to attempt to build small versions of industries that would make little sense in a normal situation. All with parliament closed, seems like a perfect situation for a crash when the inquiry looks into it - but it will seem as if it was just because of the emergency.
We can all see another consequence in the increased prices in the supermarkets already.
A nice thing is also how people are supporting their local restaurants and take aways, who are seeing some hard times...3 -
I think we will see two habits remaining long term after this crisis over,
1. Many people will have realised the time saving benefits of online grocery shopping and will stick with the habit
2. Hopefully people will remember those businesses and shops in their communities who went the extra mile and stick with them.7 -
I know we'll always be loyal to those who have gone out of their way to help this community during this time of Covid and the milkman who went to the other side of the county to get sacks of potatoes for those of us who'd asked for them is top of the list along with the pub landlord who upon being shut down and shut in has set up a non profit making veg and grocery box scheme for all of us who want them every week where all we have to do is turn up at the appointed time slot and the box is waiting on the doorstep of the pub for us to collect. Lifelines both and so many of the restaurants and even the fish and chip shop have set up delivery of meals to all who need them too, fantastic people xxx.6

As a Remainer, I started prepping back in 2016. So no mad rush for loo rolls and pasta here. I will buy, when supermarkets allow, European food and if I can't get it, I will use delicatessens. If we haven't extended the transition period by 30 June, odds are we will crash out on 1st January 2021. Idiot Tories keep saying that EU needs us, nope they still have 27 member states and loads of trade deals (Mexico most recent) so they won't miss us much.5

Currently torn between the sense of running down the freezer to use up stocks in a time sensible way and looking at all these non socially distanced demonstrations and packed beaches etc and wondering the Coronavirus spike will end up being as bad as the first wave, in which case we could see another run on a lot of essential supplies.3
