I'm working on the premise that if the tills are out so will be the card machines because the electricity is down. In that scenario coins where the exact amount of the price can be given would be safer than plastic money bank notes, although both would still have been handled by many people before they arrived in my pocket so I understand the reluctance to use them. If there were no alternative though and I needed the goods I was trying to purchase I'd have no option but to use coinage.3

The future may include tills with pockets of Dettol (or cheap vodka or whatever the proprietor decrees) into which & from which coinage is retrieved. However the bug isn't supposed to like being on surfaces for over 15 minutes, so maybe a sort of UV sunbed arrangement can be used to decontaminate iffy coin surfaces.
Or we could wear gloves for handling (literally) filthy lucre?
Or even (desperate times) delegate to strapping healthy child appointed as keeper of the coinage? Some places still have Scout Post at Christmas - it may be possible to introduce Scout money in confined areas for proscribed times whereby you bank transfer an upfront sum, the Scout handles all cash & when the books are checked by the (lucky) Leader, the correct amounts are returned by BACS to the correct parties. (Which would put a compete truck through the "this is only a couple of hours a week" recruiting fib but might be useful if yon virus gets a tad out of hand.).4 -
Where did you get the info about the bugs lasting 15 minutes on surfaces?
I’m sure I saw somewhere that it can survive for up to 9 DAYS.1 -
Riffling my Google History useless, riffling Google it would appear it Depends On The Surface:
The old familiar coronaviruses, (SARS/MERS) , yes 8 days but this new one is still being testedOn copper and steel, it’s pretty typical — it’s pretty much about two hours
Low risk on slowly shipped packages at ambient temperatures
Bank notes uncertain (your coinage may be safer than notes!)
Back to the handwashing...

The COVID-19 virus can persist in the air and on surfaces for hours, if not days, according to a new study performed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), CDC, UCLA and Princeton University.
Coronavirus may last on surfaces for 17 DAYS: Scientists find traces of the infection in the cabins of the Diamond Princess cruise more than two weeks after passengers were evacuated

So what are people's thoughts now that Bozo's campaign manager is coming back? 😊
Trying to stay sane...
I am wondering whether it is to manage the PR disaster that is unfolding with covid spreading in hospitals or if it is about making sure we go past July distracted about the Brexit cliff edge?2 -
This person thinks there are more pressing things to think about at this moment in time than anything relating to Brexit politics and politicians, that's what this person thinks!5

There's quite a bit of hat about masks, scarves etc. This site is very one sided but towards the bottom of the page instructions for how to make and care for a Tshirt mask. When next I have to go into public space, I think I may wear one.4

But...No 10 recently said that the country is still on target to leave at the end of the year. So it looks as if they're managing to 'multi-task'.A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!

When next I have to go into public space, I think I may wear one.I see what you mean about the one-sidedness, but thanks for the link. I've seen instructions on how to cut out and sew one, but can't remember where now. I'll see if I can hunt it out. This one looks quick, simple and would be easy for a non-crafty person.I had a couple of 'builder's' masks I bought for sanding. Gave 1 to DD and wore 1 myself (with a folded tissue in it) when I had to give her a lift to the a medical appointment. I decided to give washing it a try, so I stuck it into the machine on a very hot wash. I was a bit dubious and fully expected it to have disintegrated, but it was fine. I did go out without it when I went for a late night shop, but think I'll start wearing it again.A budget is like a speed sign - a LIMIT not a TARGET!!
