I am so tired of the negativity. This is a prepping thread not a can't do thread if you want to have a go then go to DT and have a thread there. Please do not have a go at us who in the past have had so little and faced homelessness and starvation. We have come through situations most people will never face and being a prepper is a result of that. I am proud of the fact that I have come through homelessness and having £10 a month to feed myself to having plans in place to ensure I will never be there again.
It is now time to take responsibility for your life and decisions and to do the best you can for yourself. This will not be the worst thing to happen this is just a test.
There has been shortages with medications for years more due to the purchasing contracts in the NHS and pharmaceutical companies. We have companies in the UK and they will have protocols in place for any event and have had for years.“HUMAN BEINGS MAKE LIFE SO INTERESTING. DO YOU KNOW, THAT IN A UNIVERSE SO FULL OF WONDERS, THEY HAVE MANAGED TO INVENT BOREDOM. (Death)” - Sir Terry Pratchett0 -

" Isn't trying to work out what to do about lifesaving medication prepping? Not much use doing all the prepping in the world with other things if I die because I can't get my med, the Health Secretary has admitted that there might be deaths because of issues with medication."
My DH needs life saving meds ( incurable cancer ) but with all the will in the world we cannot do anything about it prepping wise. If you find a way for him to get his meds, injections and tablets, please let me know.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -

Oh I wish I could find them for you, you must be so worried. Do you know if his are imported? I got someone in the NHS to check where mine came from. I could try and find out for you if it would help, of course it might just worry you more. I hope you get some reassurance.0 -

My old flatmate bought it off the landlord for £8000 in around 1974. It is now up for sale a tad under £1.5M. I can't remember what the average London salary was in those days, but I think £8K would have been more than 3 times the new graduate salary.
Sometimes it's better not to know. We sold a house in city we used to live in and bought this house on the coast. If we sold this one now we would need another £300,000 to buy the old one back. So we've "lost" over £10k a year. It is nice living on the coast, honest.0 -

Apparently the best some people can do is mill around in circles moaning like hell and bleating.
Meanwhile the rest of us can get on with sorting things out for ourselves0 -
I don't need anyone's approval or permission to prepare for Brexit I don't accept anyone's counter argument and politics as a reason not to. I shall continue to prepare as I see fit and those who don't can suffer the consequences of what happens on their little bit of lamented EU. I have my own life to take care of!0

At no point that I can see has anyone suggested prepping is pointless or that prepping for Brexit is pointless. I think Brexit will be a sh*tsh*w, prepping is very sensible and lament that it's necessary. Have made careful preparations, am lucky enough that my meds are life enhancing rather than life prolonging and that my surgery is scatty enough not to notice early reorders. Some aren't lucky in either respect and it's reasonable to have concerns. Why are people so dismissive of that?
Prepping isn't owned by a group who post on these forums, neither is having lived in extreme poverty. It's not limited to a certain generation or political standing. Why is any criticism of the Brexit process taken as a personal attack!?
Ok, reading back I asked if Brexit was so fab then why is prepping necessary, was it that? Because that isn't a comment on the validity of prepping, it's a comment on the not fabness of Brexit.0 -

You have summed it up perfectly.0 -
I used to post on this thread and then life got busy and I havent been able to catch up on what has been said, i'm not sure what the apparent argument is about so please forgive me for just barging in and maybe changing the subject a little.
I was wondering, in terms of stockpiling food, if money is short what would people consider essentials to have in their stores that we wont necessarily easily come by in April if a no deal were to happen?
We all take medications, my son is registered disabled. Thankfully most of our prescriptions are due for putting in either end of feb/start of march so we should have in effect 2 months worth in the house due to the way they are prescribed. But thereafter, there isn't a lot to be done.
I was wondering if people thought it maybe necessary to keep some cash on hand just incase?
Perhaps purchasing seeds etc for my new allotment might be better done in advance?
Do we suspect it may impact things like petrol and diesel?
Thank you for any kind supportive advice in advanceEverything is always better after a cup of tea0 -
chirpychick I've wondered about the petrol thing, I am happy to store a can of petrol but anymore than that would worry me, I'm not expecting to set the house on fire but then accidents happen and if I had a large store of petrol it wouldn't be good. We are lucky in tha.t we are retired so don't have to use the car much but we both have a car, husband's is a big car with a big tank and mine is a small runaround so I reckon if the worst comes to the worst I will be siphoning his petrol into my more economical car.
I'm concentrating on staples like pasta, rice, flour, tins of toms and some tins of meat and fish. Might not be the most exciting diet but I reckon a reasonable sized store would keep us going for weeks. I am lucky in that I live opposite a farm and get eggs from the farm and assume that would continue.
I do intend to have a supply of water. I've got old camping water containers which will be OK for somethings but I am buying bottled water, the cheap supermarket own label stuff, as I think storing it in non sterilized containers wouldn't work that well. Other probably have a different view but that is my feeling.
I have thought of buying another freezer but decided not to as I can imagine power cuts and losing the lot so I am concentrating on dried, tinned stuff.
I hardly use any cash now, use my card for most things, but I do intend to have some cash just in case.
Good luck.0
