    Morning all :)

Didn't post yesterday as I ended up back in bed for most of it :(
Feeling better today, so a few things done already:

Strawberries from hanging baskets with breakfast :)
Hoovered and washed bathroom floor :T
Watered chilli plants - they really don't like to dry out!
    Paid milk bill online
Checked banks and updated spreadsheet  Received car tax renewal reminder yesterday which had entirely slipped my mind :o That means 3 large bills this month instead of the 2 I was already stressing over  Still, I have the money in savings / emergency fund, so will have to make a big effort and get it put back!

    Still to do:
Triage fridge (love that expression :rotfl:) - I know there is half a yellow pepper in there at least that needs chopping and freezing! Done, pepper chopped and frozen and HM coleslaw used up with jacket potatoes for dinner :)

Get ingredients for a game terrine out of the freezer - part of my mission to get them emptied, defrosted and cleaned out before I buy anything else! Still a long way to go, which is good news on the shopping front I suppose :) And a terrine is handy for lunches etc, and cheap, as I only had to buy a pack of sausagemeat, had all the other ingredients already :)Done, in fact OH and I made the terrine and put it in the oven just under an hour ago. I must check it in minute to make sure the tray of water it is baked in still has water in it! It should be done by around 9pm, and OH will place a board he made to fit inside the terrine dish, and pop a heavy weight on top overnight. Then it will be ready to eat :) It will keep for a week in the fridge. Fresh herbs from the garden were used to flavour the terrine.

I have now emptied one drawer in the smaller freezer :T
Check whether seedlings etc in greenhouse need watering - nothing will outside, as it has been raining on and off (mainly on) since I watered the other day. Done

Might make a batch of scones :)Done, really wanted a warm scone with butter and elderberry and crab apple jelly, and that is what I had :D Used made up skimmed milk powder to make them, instead of fresh milk because it is cheaper, and doing so makes no difference whatsoever :T

Hopefully I will get some other bits done too :)

Morning All. I'm sitting here with a feeling of pride and achievement. I've managed to go the full week of NSD at work, previously when I had my head in the sand £5 minimum could go per day.

I did a preshop on the Asda app before I went to the SM last night, then went and physically shopped the list, so stuck right on budget and to my list.

    Today:

    - Check bank and spreadsheets
    - Amend standing order to Joint account for next payday
    - Take £4 in coppers to the bank from my emptied copper jar
    - Finally pick up my gift for WTB birthday which is tomorrow
    - Charge phone in work/drink the free coffee
    - Later enter some comps

Hope everyone has a happy and productive Friday!

Keep going, you will get there!

    scoot/bike ride county walk/promenade
    crabbing
    build a bug park
    pool in the garden
    gardening/planting
craft sessions - my lo loves craft!
    local free museum
    further afield museums/parks
    library
(can't remember what it's called exactly) echings (of trees/leaves etc) with crayons
    free local events
    make and fly a kite
    science experiments
    baking
walk a dog (borrow if necessary!)
camping in the garden. S'mores around the fire and stories
star gazing (depends of age and inclination!)

    [STRIKE]low cost[/STRIKE]

*arcades with a couple of £s of coppers (we live near to the coast)
    * local weekend cinema £1 a pop
    * local outdoors swimming pool

    * we have several memberships to local attractions. Cost for all was a little more than single entrance then go as much as we can for the year

I can't do this here as my garden isn't big enough but I used to set up a tarpaulin on the grass at the bottom of kids slide soak it with water and let the kids skid away to their hearts content

Hi baileysBabe. I'm an EH member so was looking through their website at the activities they have planned and some look fab. My LOs are 5 and 1. I'm also planning zoo visits, cinema trip and I would like to do either a drive-in movie or outdoor movie. I have loads of ideas if anyone needs some ideas. Most r not totally MSE but I like one day out a week during the holidays.

The woodland trust has lots of ideas of things to do, you can download them for free :money:

The Wild life trust are offer a free pack for 30 days wild :money:

Board games, over the years we have gathered quiet a collection. Our local games shop offers free game playing days where you get to play games from thier games library, they teach you the game in a couple of minutes generaly so you get to spend your time playing instead of learning how to play each game, which is never as fun.

Cooking, their are plenty of books around with proper cooking for children and websites including "I can cook" which would both entertain the children and cook dinner or lunch as well. Remind them the tidying away afterwards is all part of it, try and keep it quick and fun.

A friend of mine decides on a theme for each week, and then plans suitable activities.

Even simple things like going to a park in a different area of town.

I find a simple way to keep costs down is to take drinks, lunch and snacks with you. We generally avoid ice vans. If we do decide ice creams are going to be consumed we would either come home or drop by a supermarket or farm foods/iceland and by a box to share for a quid or 2.

Late post from me today. We all had the dentist first thing and then I had to dash off to my course. I'm not very creative and this is out of my comfort zone, but I'm having great fun.

After the dentist, OH took the children to their trampolining lessons. Meaning I'm in the house without anybody else which is a very rare occurrence. Nothing exciting planned, but none the less I'm enjoying it.

    Plans for today:
Turn off lights when not in use
Turn off appliances & gadgets when not in use
15 minutes in the junk room, I really do need to do this
    RM survey
Signed up to the correctly delivered survey at the end of the month
    Check bank accounts
Stick to meal plan, tonight we are having spaghetti bolognese, HM bolognese taken out of the freezer yesterday to defrost
B/L/D from stores, OH and children have been sent off for the day with a packed lunch and I have HM soup (from the freezer) and HM bread
    1 email account keep manageable
    Unsubscribe from 10 unwanted emails
    Get 2nd email account manageable
    Set dw to run overnight
    Set wm to run overnight
    Roast gifted rhubarb

I'll try and pop back later and catch up with everyone.

My kids are now 19 and 17 so I really miss the days I used to plan activities with them :-(

I am clearing out because I am moving house and found all sorts of stuff in my "craft cupboard" (now sad and emptied as I gave everything to a Freecycler!!

I made a native american teepee with an old dust sheet and bamboo poles I had in the garage - it lasted 10 years - the kids decorated it with spray paint and had a blast - I have recently found it again whilst clearing out my garage so I washed it and put it away to use with my grandchildren (if I am lucky enough).

I used to drape this over a washing line too and make a den!

We baked every week and I made ice lollies from Tupperw@re moulds - the kids had fun making their own juice/milk creations!

We would picnic in the garden and always took snacks etc if we went out (you are so right that it drains money fast constantly buying from shops etc). We bought a cheap bucket BBQ and that lasted 10 years at least. My son and his friend used it recently in the garden.

I have a projector so would set up move nights in the garden all the time = or they'd sit in the teepee watching films on a laptop.

I have only just thrown away the paddling pool we used for years.

I have to say that most kids seem to enjoy the simple stuff like sand pits and being outside!

Treasure these times because whoooosh all of a suddenly they are 19 and drive and don't need you anymore lol

    Hi Friday Frugalistas,
Quite a useful day today. My back is complaining a bit, but have done a bit of gardening involving a lot of bending & reaching, so it's to be expected.
Dawn - Glad you are more perky today.
OK, so what's on the list?
*Parked on the outskirts of town for free & walked in.
*Combined grocery shopping with town centre & dropping stuff off at the solicitors, which means I shan't need to waste petrol or leg muscles (if I cycle!) next week.
*Free slice of cake each at Waitrose.
*Treated myself to a magazine, but it was £1 from the magazine man on the market, not the usual RRP of £4.20. Chose one with 3 free perfume samples inside plus a sachet of micellar water.
*Watered veggies & fed tomatoes & cukes, as they are just starting to set fruit.
*Chopped up the big pile of comfrey I cut at the weekend & dug it into the bean bed before planting out the climbing beans. Put sweetcorn outside to harden off & had a tidy round the veggie garden. It's all free fitness & fresh air, isn't it?
*Freezer dive tonight & jacket potatoes. I'm having a leftover portion of chilli on mine & mr f has fetched out several ominous looking containers which are obviously going to be brewed up into one of his Epic Man Stews, so that's a proper frugal meal for each of us, but tasty & filling.
*Make a picnic for tomorrow's trip over to the neighbouring county. Will only need to add a flask of coffee tomorrow morning & that should be a decent money saver. As I always say, I don't mind buying a cake & 1 drink from our Personal Spends, but adding a cafe lunch into the mix just wastes too much cash over time. It really adds up, doesn't it, & must be a lot worse if also paying for children. We actually love picnics. We will picnic in almost all weathers.....there is a photo of one of our picnics in December where the flask is poking up out of 5 inches of snow, but we enjoyed it...the sun was shining & we had, had a fab walk around a sparkling icy lake.
*Stitch some more of the project I'm making for a birthday gift.
*Update my dfw diary - I read an interesting quote today about money & want to discuss it!
*Did usual cat food run to W*ko's again today. Cat's fave brand has gone up by 25p, but at £3.50 a box is still well under the RRP of £4.85. The boxes of the new mousses which were on special offer at A*di a couple of weeks ago seem to have disappeared. perhaps they were just a trial. Shame, as he snorkelled those straight down & we would have re-bought.
*Did a couple of surveys. Discovered I have sufficient points for a £5 voucher on a brands forum I'm currently on, but they are out of stock. Think I may wait & go for a £10 one.
OK, that's pretty much my day. Feeling motivated with the money-saving activity. The 'frog' which was all this legal stuff we've been doing, is almost sorted out & it looks as though the bill, while big & annoying, won't be as big as I imagined (big enough though & will have to be paid from the LPDF, grrrrr).
    Enjoy your Friday nights, all.

These are such wise words-thank you- I try my hardest to appreciate these times while they are little. I love all these ideas. Especially the tee-pee, I'd love to make one of those.

    Hello :j
    Busy day today:
Leftover sausage and an egg from DD's hens for breakfast :)

Tidied bathroom, cleaned loo and basin and watered orchids :)
Stripped bed and washed linen :)

Linen dried on line outside ready to be put back on :)
Tidied dining room and put a load of sales stuff away, that was all over the place :) Dusted furniture.

Made a Greek spinach and feta pie, now mostly eaten
DD came round with the kids this morning, and she and her OH took GD to a circus this afternoon. Little GS stayed with me. He was hard work, but not too grizzly :)
Gave them lunch before they went (spinach pie and salad and / or terrine with toast and chutney)

Walked across park and into town with GD, dog and OH. Looked in at sales unit, not much has shifted :( Bought some plastic sea creatures for GD (urgent request :rotfl:). Didn't buy anything else.
Walked back, carrying baby some of the way (OH and I took turns) as he was grizzling in the pram and I didn't want him to get in a state.
Played with baby when we got back, changed him, gave him a drink etc till has parents returned. He was quite good today :)
Cooked potatoes and made salad to go with the rest of the spinach pie, for dinner (I wasn't cooking anything else today!)
Stoned and cooked a bag of cherries that DD brought round. Her MiL had given her a big boxful of really ripe ones, which needed using straight away, so she gave me some :) Didn't want to eat them all, so I made them into a pie filling which I will freeze shortly :)

I have now collapsed in a heap with a cup of coffee! So glad to be able to do things today, and hoping I don't pay for it tomorrow with another day in bed! Even if I do, it was worth it, to feel normal again :D
