  • Can I join in late? Having browsed the forums obsessively seeking help on my new house purchase, I now need to get a grip on my monthly budget to account for a mortgage and some credit card debt built up during the move. No idea how the editing works so this is going to look a bit dull!

    Today:
    Brought lunch to work
Payday and budget planned for the month
Cancelled 2 subscriptions (Kindle Unlimited and Kindle Kids, both I unused)

Today has been a small spend day. £3 for a taxi and £12 to stock up on coca cola (bad I know) but should be good for 2 weeks. I had surprise extra money after paying off my second smallest debt. Need to go food shopping but, will make a list and call into Lidl for a change.

GlendaSugarbean I would use the remainder of this month to try out a few of the turtle rules and treat it as a practice run for next month. It can take a while to get your head round all the rules - I often compare them to a set of tools, the more you use, the better you do.

You could look at what food you have in and see what you can make with it (could also think about what you cook now and if there is anything you would like to try). Turtles have a holistic approach, we make our bodies fit (fit for life not the beach) as we give our wallets a workout, we practice gratitude to be more aware of all the things we have and we value family and friends above material goods and love to have fun (especially if it's free).

I'm fine. I'm fine. I could be 'fitter'. But my heart is fine.

So that was a waste of a week worrying. Even worse, after all my counselling and CBT I have adopted a zen like calm so I didn't even work out that going to sleep for two whole days (and only eating one meal a day) was due to worry.

Right now I will pick myself up, dust myself off and start again, eat right, walk lots (just done one end of the main shopping street to the other with frequent diversions), exercise (just don't mention burpees, squats, the plank or lunges), sleep properly (if on an adjusted timetable) and be happy. Will do as much as I can but not fret over anything 'not done' (unless my octopus superpower kicks in).

Had 2 hours sleep, woke 5 minutes before the alarm (set it for six), got ready, walked to the infirmary. I was the first to be called, they wired me up and then we went into meet the dreaded treadmill. The doctor and 2 other members of staff were reassuring and said I could stop if I had problems but it went okay, even when they sped it up and inclined it (although I was counting backwards in my head when they said they wanted me to do another minute if I could).

Talked things through with the specialist and we are blaming the hayfever (still have the cough and there is a wheeze in my chest). So all my walking in the past must still be keeping me okay despite the problems of the last few years. Now I need to get myself back to proper fitness. Thank you for all your support. Will go and find some inspiration now.

  • So glad your fine Mothernerd!
A Ask yourself 'Is this necessary?' Before purchasing anything. When you make a 'to do' list (is it realistic or even possible). Diet coke wasnt necessary but, the food was. Total spend £18.09 for the week hopefully.

J June challenge runs from 1st June to 30th. You will aim for 20 NSDs (tough target) or 10 NSDs (soft target - if you are struggling, take the 'soft' target and exceed it).
Not a no spend day today.

U Use the food you have in the cupboards, fridge and freezer to base your meals on. Meal plan (for the month or for a few days at a time, whichever suits). Cook from scratch (short cuts permitted if you are feeling stressed) Buy doing this I managed to keep my food costs low

N No takeaways, coffee, chip or pie shop purchases. Do not use works canteen (unless free/ highly subsidised), vending machines. None planned this week.

E Eating well is a form of self respect. Give your body the fuel it needs and appreciate all it does for you. No specific rule but I can recommend the 'emergency banana' or small bag of seeds and nuts to prevent the rush for chocolate.Stocked up on fruit

O Offer help and encouragement to other turtles and people you meet. Be kind to everyone, especially yourself.Said hello to a few people.

D Debt or savings payments should be made first - live on what is left. Paid off my smallest debt and the one that causes the most stress. :j. Moved £250 into savings.and will have cleared off my friend today.

E Exercise according to your programme or your ability. Minimum of 3 times a week. Try to get outside every day. Done my first walk

S Set all your budgets before the start of the month. Food, travel, social, diy, other.
Today starts my new budget month. Food: £18.09/£200 and transport £20

S Someone, somewhere is worse off than you. Donate to the local food bank or other charity of your choice. Clear some of your clutter and donate the goods to charity. Now is a good time to check children's clothing (I would always turn too short/ holey joggers/ trousers into shorts). If your family is complete pass on your too small clothing to relatives, friends or charity. Sell it if it's 'designer' - and ask yourself why you paid so much for something that only fit for a few months and spent most of its life covered in sick or poo (sorry, that's judgemental).I didnt today sorry.

E Every day check in is reccommended, especially when things go wrong. here.

Y You are the most important person in your life. You are your own longest term investment. You matter. Read this and the daily quotes, take on anything you find relevant and helpful, ditch the rest.

  • Thank you Mothernerd! Another subscription cancelled today so another 7.99 saved :j

I need to cook more from stores and not waste food - the move also meant we have a proper fridge freezer rather than a small fridge with ice box, so that helps! Even if the kids ensure it’s stocked with ice cream :D

Congratulations mothernerd so glad it is not something more serious.

When anyone asks you can say 'oh it's 'just hayfever':rotfl:

After today the nights will start drawing in, and the blessed darkness shall return and bring along with it the ability to breathe, and go outside, and taste food, and not to have to take out shares in pharmaceutical companies and kleenex. :D

I am hiding from the pollen by being up a ladder with paint fumes instead.

    Glad everything went well, Mothernerd.
    Diet coke wasnt necessary
Strictly speaking, maybe but you can't deny yourself everything. A little treat keeps you on track and you're doing so well in everything else despite the really difficult circumstances.

Small spend today but I found a £1.00 coin on the way home from the shops.
Had a walk through the park which was very nice. Lots of dogs and toddlers playing.
Himself has been watching the football so I've done a bit of cooking, cleaning and washing. Football watching hasn't been quite as bad as I feared.
So dinner is fish from freezer cooked with peppers, tomatoes onions, potatoes and garlic. I found a book whilst tidying. The Mediterranean Diet. It's not a way of losing weight more a healthy way of eating. Must have another look at it. It seems to really cut down on sugar and dairy and reduces the amount of red meat replacing it with fish and chicken. I think that might work for me.
So tomorrow have blood pressure and asthma review. Expecting a slap on the wrist for not losing weight. The naughty step is looming.
Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.
