If I want to really impress hubby I make pea and ham soup in the slow cooker.
The proper way is ham shank, soaked dried peas overnight, carrots, potatoes and onions.

    The "cheat's way"
frozen mushy peas from farm Foods
    Stock cubes
    Frozen mixed veg

Either recipe has him feeling really spoiled!!!

He went out for a drink one night and was raving about having pea and ham soup - every other guy then started reminiscing about their mother making this and went home to ask their wives "Why don't we ever have pea and ham soup?"

I am still getting some funny looks! lol;)

Thanks to this board, I've made some lovely soups - I made chocolate brownies the other day and they turned out really well. They are gorgeous.

    Thanks OS!

When I made pea and ham soup for the first time a few weeks ago in the slow cooker my boyfriend said he hasn't had pea and ham soup as good as that since his gran was alive. It has become a family favourite of ours now. I make it with yellow split peas soaked overnight, a ham shank, a chopped onion and water. That's it - so simple to make and it is divine.;)

I made a soup for the first time last night. OH was well impressed, said it tasted as good as the tins! ;)

Fried a chopped leek and half a garlic clove in some worcester and soy sauce.
Bunged in one chopped carrot, one chopped parsnip, three chopped cabbage leaves, some left over cooked potatoes from the fridge, some oregano, basil and thyme. Two veg stock cubes and loadsa water.

Cooked it all till soft, then whizzed it all up in the processor (hubby doesn't like lumpy soup!!).

Got some for my lunch today - bonus is that it's low fat too!

Got more than enough stuff to do lots more. :)

I knew it was easy to do as I come from a home where home made soup was a regular weekend treat. It's just that OS gave me the confidence to give it a go - Thanks!! :)

As good? AS GOOD!!?? Wrong answer :naughty: Sell him and buy a pig! The *correct* answer would be ... it's better than tinned! ;)

:T :T Well done to you!! :D:D It's lovely to read when someone has not only felt inspired, but plucked up the courage to give it a go :T :T
