I think Tesco had an offer on jersey spuds last week and I'd ordered some but they were missing from my shopping when it was delivered
I got it refunded but that's not the point, as I needed the spuds for a couple of dinners and I've only got a handful of old spuds here which are no good for what I wanted "An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Here's the article I read last year that stopped me buying bagged salad, for good...0 -

LOL, I'm off again singing the praises of Lidl twice now. They have got 2 tiny gem lettuces for 32p (1/2 price)
How about growing your own. Should be able to pick up packets for under a £1 and get loads of lettuce for that. If you plant a couple of seeds a week starting now they should keep you going for ages once they start to grow. When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
Thanks PP. You have inspired me to sit down and work out the cost of my meal plan this week. I know what the shopping to make the meals cost me, but not the actual cost (using up storecupboard and freezer items). It'll be interesting!
Thanks for the inspirationr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Sunday I was having a sort out of my food cupboard and I found a sausage casserole mix. I haven't used a mix for these sort of meals for ages but decided (in true money-saving style!) that it had to be used up.
Last night I duly made said sausage casserole and tasted it just before I was due to dish it up. It tasted awful! I had to add herbs, pepper and stock before it tasted anything like edible.
Served it to my family, who ate it, but every one of them said it wasn't as nice as I usually make and whatever I changed can I change it back!
Yay, home-cooking gets a definite thumbs up!Mink0 -
Sorry that dinner wasn't as nice as you hoped it would be - but fantastic news that your family really appreciate your home cooking!
I think you are right to be proud of both your family and your ability in the kitchen. As Martin would probably agree it's another way of shoving two fingers up at big companies. :rotfl:
Now, can i come over for dinner please................r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Awww! Isn't it nice to be appreciated? Well done! I guess you may well have finally converted them. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

Not so sure about the wealth bit Queenie - it cost me more to bodge it than it would to have made it! :rotfl:Mink0
