we have taken our radio out of the shop.
paid for a few years, then it was a cut back option.
    £200 ish buys some stock.
I think a few other small shops will also.
  • We've just had a call from the PPL at work - told him we have no radios or anything so he then started asking about TVs - told him we have one which is used for watching major sport events (eg world cup) only and he told me we need a PPL licence for that!
I told him we don't and if he wants to communicate about it put it in writing.

Used to get loads of calls from PRS but always told them the same and they left us alone eventually so hopefully this crowd will too
    Nice to save.
  • sorry - accidentally posted twice!

  • I'm here today because we have received the call from PPL...being very cheeky asking questions to a flustered boss who had better things to do than take scam calls (okay there legit but methods not) which we get loads everyday. Were a small office of 2 people!! they now have a cheek to ask for money after assuming from the answers the boss (stupidly) gave the game up that we have a radio in a 5x5 metre office space. SO TAKE US TO COURT:mad:. Save the money you try to extract in this extortionate fashion and pay the artists? Such an antiquated outdated system, we are listening to a commercial radio station who I presume pay a hefty wack to PRS, PPL, GOD or CRAP or any other organisation for the benefit of providing the service to the unwitting victim who then buys a receiver? As the musician explained on page 2/3 of this 8 page thread why should these "artists" get paid time and time again, if they don't like the system of public "buying" a piece of music and paying the up front royalty then don't make music!? why? if it's not enough to live on then forget it!? the world would be a quieter place but that is what this PRS and PPL seem determined to do anyway:mad: absolute bunkum and we are treating this non contractual invoice like the private parking ticket....binned. Think about it how would musicians get heard if nobody paid the bloody fee? counter productive for sure:cool:

I am being harassed several times a week by PPL, I have emailed them to say I do not require a licence as I do not play any music in public and they are calling me IN MY OWN HOME!

They refuse to listen. I now just put the phone down on them, and keep emailing them so I have a record of it.
  • if you have the emails as evidence then send them a letter warning that if they don't seize immediately you will sue them for harrassment - that should get their attention?
and report them to the telephone preference service which they have breached also.

  • "they refuse to listen"

their call centre does not appear to communicate with their customer services which is not my problem.

if they call me again, I will refer them to the ombudsman

Artists and musicians do not get anymoney from PRS. It all goes to PRS and the record companies, but none to the singers or writers.

BTW music writers and artist do not make any money from record sales. Their money come from live performances
Do you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring
