I am just opening a new shop. If I have a full tv lisence do I still need the other lisences as well.0

http://amazingradio.co.uk/ - Just check out the website. It won't be for everyone but it's a start. Next time the PRS reps call and say "I can hear music, do you realise you could be prosecuted?", simply say "Have you heard of amazing radio?", that'll shut 'em up.
Tata, NeilI am silently correcting your grandma.0 -
In basic terms there are two licencing companies. PRS look after people like the composers, PPL look after the people who actually perform on the tracks.
If you play TV, SKY, Radio, MP3's, CD's etc in a business environment you will need both a PPL & PRS Licence. This WILL include areas where no public hear the music (e.g. even if the radio is only playing in the back office).
The cheapest licence is for radio use only (50% less than playing CD's / MP3's).
If you want music, but don't want to pay for a licence, you can obtain copyright free CD's and certain web radios that are purely playing copyright free music - however most of these are bad! If you are a small shop, hairdresser, office etc try supporting your local unsigned bands. If they are unsigned you will not need the license, it promotes the local band and you have music. Local bands will be playing in a bar near you, and most will have CD's to sell - maybe they can help support your business in return for you promoting their music??0 -
Can I just ask please? We have a PRS licence which I appreciate we need to play music to encourage or motivate our customers, however we don't use CDs, just stuff we download (legally and paid for) from itunes, spotify etc. Do we also need a PPL licence?
As we also have a premises licence which covers live and recorded music too, it seems we have to pay three times for licences on top of the price of the actual tracks. It does seem a bit over the top!

Another question,
My friend has a restaurant who plays chinese music which is copyrighted (however I suspect PPL doesn't have an agreement with the record company - as its from the 1920's).
PPL are sending invoices demanding payment.
Does anyone know what the score is if the artist isn't in their database?0 -
How is copyright still in existence if it's from the 1920s? Music copyright in China and UK is 50 years, Authors rights are life + 50 years in China (Both PRC and ROC) and Life plus 70 years in the UK.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

I know, spoke to PPL apparently there saying that if its on a new media (i.e. digitally remastered CD) then the copyright gets extended.0

Sounds like balls to me. Entirely different issue. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
