Why does everyone say easyjet are cheap?

I fly to Rhodes twice a year.Once in the summer and once at xmas via athens and Easyjet have always been more expensive than BA.

It all depends on where you're going, when you're going and when you book. Usually easyJet are cheap, but because of their yield management as you get closer to the date of travel or if you book at a peak time they can be expensive, as you say. Every time I've needed to book flights they have been significantly cheaper than BA but I do know of people who have found for their particular needs other carriers to be cheaper. You just need to shop around and not blindly think that low cost actually means low cost!

easyJet are mentioning that Gatwick summer flights should go on sale within the next two weeks "with summer schedules from the airline largest base at Gatwick expected to be released within the next two weeks."

    https://www.easyjet.com/EN/News/new_routes_and_summer_schedule_2008.html

So perhaps the deal with GB may be complete soon.

thankyou so much for posting this info. We have been watching the Easyjet flights for weeks , and have had a browser open on the pc with our dates/route etc permanently. I saw your post, but when hitting the "book" button it just said "this route is only available to end of March." My DH looked wirelessly on his palm and they were in fact already released.
We have now booked for next summer and they are going up in price fast.
In the time it took to book the price went up £40!.
    Thanks again for the info
  • Booked with GB Airways from Gatwick to Mykonos a month or so ago knowing that the flights would be taken over by Easyjet but we were keen to guarantee seats on the direct flight. We were thinking once the flights were released with Easyjet, any differences in prices might be refunded. However prices to Athens from Gatwick, released yesterday, are already starting at only £10 less than we paid for GB flights and that is just to Athens, not Mykonos.

Don't know how much you paid for GB Airways flights, so can't really comment, but on longer routes, the economics simply don't make it viable to be able to sell the sort of £50 return seas that they can on much shorter flights. Assuming that because its easyJet it will be much cheaper is not accurate , GB Airways are often very competitive with their pricing.

At Last they have shown their colours for GB airways passengers

    What you need to know
Once the sale completes, your flight will be operated by easyJet and will be subject to easyJet's terms and conditions. The price of your ticket, departure and arrival airports, dates and times will remain unchanged from your original booking. easyJet will offer one free hold bag* per passenger, while food and refreshments will be available to buy on board.

WOW we get 1 FREE bag per passenger and nothing else did we expect anything else????

Now to decide what to do!!

Sadly no refunds in the difference in rate???

They stated the flights will be operated by easyJet's terms and conditions right from the first email, so no I didn't expect anything else. I did expect to be given a free bag, and that is what they are doing. But the BA website from the day this was first announced always stated that after March 30th flights would be operated as easyJet with their service.

The fact easyJet are operating the flights on the same dates and times is very good in itself, most airline mergers or takeovers historically have been far more messy than this. easyjet could have bought GB Airways, cherry picked the bits that they wanted (Gatwick slots, a Manchester base), and shut down the rest overnight. I appreciate people are annoyed they booked a BA flight and are getting an easyJet one, but it really could be a whole lot worse.
Sadly no refunds in the difference in rate???

The poster is comparing recently released easyJet flights to Athens to his GB booking to Mykynos?? How or why would easyJet be expected to refund any difference in rates between to completely different flights?
  • I have nothing against Easyjet, having flown with them many times, but perhaps complimentary refreshments and speedy boarding could have been offered to those having booked original GB flights, having expected (and paid for) those services.

I realise you can cancel and obtain a full refund, but having waited several months it is now unlikely replacement flights will exist at the same prices.

My point regarding the price difference was that the starting price to Athens alone with Easyjet is almost as much as GB charges to Mykonos - and Mykonos flights will surely cost more, once they eventually come online. Hence no price refunds.
