GB Airways taken over by Easyjet

No more BA Miles redemption flights to many popular holiday destinations from next April then. Details here:

http://www.britishairways.com/travel/flightops/public/en_gb?p_faqid=3029

GB Airways are a cheap-and-chearful BA franchise partner, flying under BA colours.

This leaves hardly any BA flights to mediterranean/canary island destinations.

  • I was just reading on the BA website though that BA are setting up their own routes to the Med. They plan to start services from Heathrow to Faro and Malaga and from Gatwick to Faro, Gibraltar, Ibiza, Malaga, Palma and Tunis. The new
services will start from March 30, 2008. They won't initially be covering the full GB Airways network but is at least a start.

No sign of Canary Islands though, which was a common use for our BA Miles!

No sign of Manchester-based routes either...

looks like sharm is not on the list either and existing bookings like ours for july 2008 will be transfered to easyjet. so our luggage allowance drops by 3kg x 5 = 15kg, might have problems with hubbies laptop which ba class as an extra hand baggage allowance , no pre- allocated seats with 2 autistic children will be great fun , no free drinks or meals now extra , £2 charge per bag for the cases to go in the hold having to cope with gatwick south instead of the quieter north terminal, no on line checkin to save time and queing with 2 autistic children , probably will charge for the inflight movie, smaller seats with less leg room. i willingly paid a little more for ba as all these bits made our family holiday a little less stressful.
I bet easyjet will give us nothing for this hassle or a refund of the difference in fares bearing in mind i booked next years flights back in august just under 12 months ahead and in full
    its a disaster
my mum & dad wont be pleased either as they use the ibiza route a lot

Easyjet checked luggage allowance is 20kg
Easyjet have unlimited hand luggage weight
The one bag limit applies to all flights from the UK - including BA's - not just Easyjet's.

And why do you think your current booking - including allowances etc - won't be honoured?
  • I can understand your points rainee most though are worse because of your specific issues with the children which can't be easy, however my parents live out in Cyprus and I have nothing good to say about GB. They have always charged the most and delivered the least in my experience on the Paphos flights. I'm really looking forward to seeing cheap flights to the island and maybe even updated aircraft. Bring it on:j

no changes to either operation until 30th March. Its looks very much like GB's routes will not change either. If you've booked for next summer, your flight will still exist.

I lose 3kg per pax luggage allowance
ba allows a laptop computer in its own bag and one piece of hand luggage (hubby's one is a big dell 21inch screen job so kids can watch dvds whilst away (a life saver!! and just about fits the size but we have been known to have problems with check in staff before and i am not putting an expensive laptop in the hold only to get bashed about or nicked) so now laptop will be his piece of hand luggage!!

the T&C will be on the new booking which easyjet will make and on easyjets terms I am sure they will add on the baggage charges of £2 per bag so we still have to pay more (thats another £10)and ba canxs our existing one (well thats reading all 3 web sites gbairways ba and easyjet and they say its approx 8 weeks away before we will hear any news!!)
drinks for the flight we'll have to buy airside and grab something to eat before boarding but its when you've paid for it almost a year in advance got almost 2k sitting in their bank account and not get the same service you were expecting isn't much fun...

its given me a headache already

at least the flight does its just the rest of the hassles to deal with i'm certainly not looking forward to my 13yr old having a major tantrum screaming in the queue at check in!!!!! or the run to get a seat on the plane!!!!

i must admit we have been lucky on the egypt and ibiza flights always on time better leg room than the charter flights and the extra luggage allowance and online check in which cuts down the time and during the school holidays normally £10 cheaper with drinks& meals thrown in
