Lol at you expecting a proper big Mr S, CCL. The one you mention is just a 'Corner shop'-type local one. We have to drive to the outskirts of our nearest city centre for Mr S, so your Waitrose instincts were definitely right on this occasion.

  • Good on you for taking the kids to see ex's family. It can't have been easy and it's not something I was lucky enough to do when my parents were going through a divorce. Glad you enjoyed your trip nonetheless. Am I missing something...whats a Mr S?

You thought ds was polite Foxgloves - the voice from the back of the car went 'What the h*ll is that?' Me: 'Sainsburys - like you asked for' Him: 'Well what is the point of that? It won't sell anything we need.' Me: 'You asked for Mr S - let's go' Him: 'I am waiting in the car - we have more food than that shop in our house.'
Real first world problems that they didn't have the right brand of bread for him in there, but dd was happy because they had everything that she wanted :rotfl:
Anyway, last night got busy again after I signed off because dd discovered cat pee on her bed. So I had another bed to change and my washing machine is going to be busy today. I can also smell cat pee in our outhouse. This is a problem because it's a general dumping ground for lots of junk and actually very difficult to find anything out there - let alone where one of the cats has decided to pee. It's a bit annoying, because when we're home the cats come and go as they please. Four of the cats are just complete litter tray refusers and much prefer to go outside for the loo, but when we're away our neighbour insists on letting them into the house and then there's nobody here to let them out again apart from the twice a day my cat sitter comes round. I've asked her a few times to make sure that if she lets them in she pops round and lets them out again as well but it doesn't seem to happen - I don't want to take the key off her because she's really helpful in terms of taking in parcels, and letting my handyman in when he's doing jobs in the house. It is just a bit annoying when we've been away anywhere to get home and find mess needing to be cleaned up. Obviously I accept that as we have a lot of cats, there is going to be a cleaning and tidying requirement - but I really don't want my house to smell as bad as I think it does at the moment  Anyway. I shall continue to plod on and investigate.
I think I slept pretty well actually (fluffy bedding doing a brilliant job) so feel almost ready to go today. I'm ignoring the snotty nose for the moment :( - just had my first cuppa of the day and am busy coming up with a plan. I think I want to be based round home today - apart from the fact that I have no money I also just fancy a day of being based at home. I do have to pop out a couple of times during the day - my sister is off on holiday today and I am feeding her cat so I'll need to pop over there. There has also been extended conversation with ds about being more active and eating more healthy foods so I think that we may need to make moves with that as well.
Also thinking about December and how quickly it is approaching. I need to make a list of what I have, what I've still got to do and who I'm planning giving gifts to. Also need to decide what type of jam I'm going to attempt to make, and plod on with crochet. The bigger concern is the kids and my lack of funding. DD wants a new phone for Christmas, and I have been emailed an offer on a phone which may just be worth taking so I need to investigate that. DS still cannot decide what he wants for Christmas - it changes on a daily basis which is a problem before we consider the cost of it all.
Foxgloves - ds has just stuck his head round the door and asked me if we can make some of your biscuits when the current supply runs out, and can I please ask you for the recipe.
I also have some exam stuff to do today - should be less than a couple of hours of work but I need to make sure that I make time and get it done as there's a deadline approaching.
So busy day ahead - not out and about but ticking off smaller jobs.

    Enjoy your half term!:beer::beer:
There is too much month and not enough funds this October,, a lot of people are feeling it.

One of our ( long departed) cats decided on a dirty protest at us leaving them for 48 hours (we had a cat flap - there was no excuse) so he found dh's favourite book on the bookshelf, pulled it out and peed on the open pages. He was a total git, that cat. Properly evil, but very pretty in a skinny, black, satanic way. I am sure he must have had some Siamese in him.
Good luck with the prepping for winter (or tidying cupboards as some people call it). :D

I am sure people who have minimalist decorating style must get reallllllly bored, what with not having anything to move, or clean, or sort, or file:rotfl:.
Glad you met up with foxgloves, it was really good of you to take the kids to meet 'their extended', it shows you have the kids interests at heart - one more thing though - do you have a will and have you said who gets your kids if you snuff it . While you have a solicitor anyway. Just a thought.

Tell the kids this Christmas will be the last frugal one, but you need to keep a bit of a hold on the purse strings this year. So make sure you tell me in good time what you want. This is organised, planned, efficient Christmas.

Next year you can all go all out on the fun. They will understand, I mean, you already have the Bulgaria holiday sorted.

    Go you!

  • Not that I would wish my financial woes of this month on anyone f0xh0les but I am reassured that I'm not the only one suffering from too much month and not enough money this month. Only another 11 hours or so to go and I have got this. I am just about budgeted for November and whilst it's tight, I should get past the 4th before I run out of money, which is what happened this month.
I do have a cold. Again. Thankfully it doesn't seem as severe as the one I just managed to get rid of but I am definitely bunged up and sneezy, and not feeling 100%. It's left me feeling a bit grumpy and sleepy - even though I slept well last night.
Got up early this morning, as I had to wait for an engineer to come to the house (8-1). We've had intermittent broadband for months now, and nobody has ever been able to find the problem. I go through all the troubleshooting stuff online or on the phone, then it works for a week or two, then starts cutting out again. Anyway - after it had gone off 5x yesterday I rang them and the woman I spoke to said that she could see how often it was cutting out, and that there was a network fault somewhere between the junction box and my house. Luckily enough, there was an appointment available this morning. So I was up and pottering round, washing up, washing clothes, hoovering, making soup (!!!) and crocheting. When the kids finally got up (both after 10am) I popped over to my sister's house to feel the cats while she's away. I gave it until 1230 before ringing up to chase up the engineer - only to be told that as the fault is external I didn't need to be in the house at all and I'd been misinformed  I had cancelled going to see bestie this morning for the first time in weeks to wait for the engineer as well  I've also been told that the network won't be fixed until tomorrow by 6pm. That's fine as it's working intermittently, but it's a real first world disaster for ds and his Xbox. And I'm already fed up of hearing about it. I'm a bit annoyed that I've sat in for a second day without having to as well.
Anyway. I was fairly productive yesterday - got dd's phone sorted and saved £263 there. No sign of anything yet for ds but at least I've started my main Christmas shop.
Today I've already done dishes, washing, eating the last of Foxgloves biscuits, crochet and fed all of the cats currently in my care. I have literally no money but I can see my pay pending in the bank. Must not go wild with it - I have prepared a budget and need to stick to it no matter what. I can't have another month like this one financially.
Right - best get back on with it then...

  • On the bright side - you had a productive day and you saved a wad of cash! Not too shabby.

    Hope you feel better soon.

Is there a reason you don't have a cat flap?

I can't stand litter trays in the house so one of our first jobs when we moved here a few months ago was get one fitted in the kitchen window (was cheaper than having a larger double glazed unit cut for the patio door).
