  • If you ever eat mackerel, gooseberries are a fantastic accompaniment, simply boiled and softened. It may sound odd but the tartness of the gooseberries really complements the oiliness of the fish! Gooseberries will freeze well too & gooseberry crumble is always a winner! Can you tell we have bushes at the allotment!

    Hello :hello:

Didn't get round to making my chutney last night - as I suspected I didn't have enough vinegar in the house to get it done. I popped the gooseberries in the freezer and will do it after I'm back from hols. Don't want to be rushing about making chutneys while I'm also rushing about trying to finish packing for holidays and getting the kids to do the same. Thank you all for recipe suggestions though - I will look into it and decide something.

The end is almost in sight now though, which is great news... This time in 2 days I will be just finishing up for the summer. Me and dd have done a lot of our packing, and ds is still dragging his feet a bit. His behaviour is poor at the moment and I'm putting it down to him being tired but he really got on my nerves this morning - ended up going to school in a huff with me because I caught him out in a lie and told him I didn't like lies. He has an awful stubborn side which he definitely doesn't get from me - but maybe my mother. :p Still no word from his dad in any way, shape or form - good or bad. I just don't mention it to either of them any more.

Not very much to report - work isn't pleasant at the moment but for once it's nothing to do with me. There are some behaviours from some staff that are a bit annoying and I feel as though I'm constantly caught in the crossfire. I can see both sides of the current argument but one person is being particularly draining and I really hope that the summer break will help them to rest and recharge. We're a few staff missing today - someone has been sent home with shingles in our department. Hopefully that's not infectious because I don't want to get sick on holiday.

Brilliant news - you can't catch shingles. So we are all safe as we've all had chickenpox. Feel bad for my work mate but am pleased we can all expect to be reasonably healthy while we're away. Although I have heard today that there's a kid in school with whooping cough - apparently beyond the infectious stage but really???? Thankfully I have already had whooping cough, and I assume that my kids will be vaccinated.
Just checked with my HoD who is a big anti vaxxer and he explained why whooping cough can still be awful but not infectious so I'm good with that - although apparently you can catch it more than once.

Just five lessons now between me and the summer - I can almost see it, and I am desperate to get there. I am literally aching all over, I'm so tired but stupidly excited. I think I may have mentioned 3 or 4 million times that me and the kids are going away straight from school tomorrow. :rotfl: I have arranged dd's early finish and am also going to sort ds with an early finish so we can get to the airport in plenty of time. We all got our packing done and finished last night apart from the last minute stuff like toothbrushes and smellies so we're good to go. Also finalised and paid the catsitter so the fur babies are well looked after while we're gone. Sorted all the rubbish and recycling out, and chucked a litre of disinfectant in the rubbish bin, which smelt awful but I had no desire to deal with last night. I'll put it on the frog list for when we're home... :(

Good news re next year's timetable :j You are sounding oorganised for getting away and good news that the various lurgy's aren't infectious. Have a lovely, relaxing time when it comes

Awkward - one of the members of staff that were involved in the whole issue a couple of months ago that led me to step down from the union has just been in school. I popped out to ask them how they were getting on and got a very cold shoulder indeed. Suppose I should feel lucky that they spoke to me because apparently they just flat out ignored some other members of staff. Assume they aren't coming back in September with that behaviour but it was really uncomfortable for a few minutes and has put me in a temporary bad mood.
