We are nowhere near our overdraft (never used it, never will) but we actually know what we spend and don't need to have a breakdown on twitter when a bank's maintenance runs over the expected timescales.

I knew what I had in my account, ok to the nearest tenner but I knew I had a £300 buffer in case something went off.

Failing that I have a couple of credit cards with different financial institutions to fall back on
I'd fully expect the above dismissive posts to trigger some more fairly forthright responses - while I wouldn't necessarily disagree that some issues being faced might have been avoidable, it's sometimes easy to forget that away from the financially-savvy and often relatively fortunate world of the typical MSE forumer, there are many people who don't have the luxury of buffers, additional means of payment, multiple accounts, etc, and for whom this outage, rather than being a minor irritant, is a complete nightmare, so perhaps a bit less smug sneering might be in order?

There!!!8217;s running over and running over though! This is ridiculous now, over 72 hours after the upgrade should have been complete and people still can!!!8217;t access their money.

It!!!8217;s all very well to talk about !!!8216;snowflakes!!!8217; and people who !!!8216;can!!!8217;t manage without internet banking!!!8217; but when debit cards are being rejected what are people supposed to do? Not everyone wants or can have a credit card. And as for the branch trying to charge £30 to move money, that!!!8217;s beyond a joke.

My mobile app is now working fine. I'm not at home so can't check online although I got in OK late morning.

My branch manager told me that if I needed a bankers draft it would be free of charge. I've not requested one as I'm now confident (!!) that my debit card will work.

    Phew!

It is not sneering it is simply pointing out the facts - even if the TSB account was your sole account then if you were taken overdrawn due to the system downtime then you will be compensated so you are not left out of pocket.
If you don't have buffers or additional accounts then how is that any different from a normal banking day?

Having been on my #rse financially with basic banking and a low salary for a period time I was far more savvy then than I am now...
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

In a moment of what can only be described as 'clever thinking' I moved most of my money out of the account on Friday. Glad I did now. Not had much of a need to access online banking but when I have its worked about 20% of the time. The one payment I made in (last night) went through ok and so did the subsequent payment.

At last - someone with some common sense!! (seemingly a rare commodity).
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

I'm thinking of previous posters who aren't able to pay their bills or access their money even though they know it's there - there are obviously many different impacts being felt and I do agree that some warrant less sympathy than others, but promises of not ultimately being out of pocket don't cut much ice if you don't have access to any money at the moment....

At no point since Friday has the core system been down, at least not for any noticeable period of time?
I used my card for both Visa and ATM transactions over the weekend, yesterday, Monday and today. I also manage to do all of my online banking, today, with only one problem which was rectified after a few hours - talk about the doomsday brigade, more to the point "impatient" people, it is the business banking customers who came off the worst as there were many small businesses unable to pay salaries using the online banking system.

What would people do if the internet was unavailable?

I'm sure everyone's delighted that you've been able to do what you needed to do, but dare say some will be a tad miffed that you've decided that that means everyone else must have been OK too!

Who cares as long as I get loads of compensation ?

Quite. Although I've been able to log in online several times today without undue difficulty, I'm still getting the ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException exception: null error message and am unable to make payments..
