Managed to get up to date statement printed out, despite being told that my login details were incorrect twice: entered same details carefully and logged in. Tried to make a payment and the system crashed again. Logged in again, told my details are incorrect again. Logged me in anyway. Slow, so slow.

This is a definite fustercluck: thank you whoever came out with that one. :) I cannot imagine how much custom this will lose you, TSB. I may be one, when the smoke clears.

And I shall to continue to object* to the loss of a vital service which prevents me from making transactions. I don't live in the 2nd or 3rd world, I live in a society which offers services that allow me to see the money I earn and operate my banking so that I can exist financially. Telling me that I am better off than others in the world, is akin to the parents who used to tell their kids to eat their greens, "because there are people starving in Africa/India/wherever."

Yes, I have a sense of entitlement: because I am entitled to believe the promises of a commercial organisation which has singularly and publicly failed to keep those promises.

*Object - to poor service. Not moan and gripe. Any more Victorian lessons for us?
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

What a load of rubbish, you where just trying to wind people up. And there is a sense of entitlement, we are tsb's customers and shouldn't be getting treated in this way.

I dont think theyre trying to wind people up. It is probably what they actually think. Which is a shame, as I think theyre slightly bonkers to hold such an opinion. No offence intended :D

But there we are. This is the internet.

I'm, "slightly bonkers" to think that malnutrition and famine are worse problems than not being able to log in to internet banking with TSB for a short period of time?!? Really?

My apologies sir. I meant to imply you were slightly bonkers for thinking malnutrition and famine were relevant to the discussion.

My opinion only, I fully expect you will think me slightly bonkers (or worse ;)) for holding it.

I'm with you on this one ValiantSon... There are much bigger problems than being able to check your app on your £1000 phone... I think a lot of people forget what it was like to have to go into a bank and handwrite a slip to do their banking!

You are using an extreme to make a point. However if TSB is effectively your main, and perhaps only, source of funds, you have every right to be angry and//or concerned

I'm a customer of TSB too, and I am not frothing at the mouth and stamping my foot in anger, outraged at their overrun. There is too much outrage at things in this society that are not worthy of it. There are real problems in the world where people suffer, and this is not one of them.
I guess it depends what situation you are currently in.

I have several current accounts and several savings accounts, so TSB being inaccessible isn't much of a problem for me.

However, if I only had accounts with TSB and needed to pay a bill urgently, then I would be very bothered. Examples could be people being unable to move house (renters) because they cannot transfer the money for the deposit/rent, getting late payment charges on a credit card, having the ability to pay council tax monthly withdrawn, etc etc. If you're already on the breadline, then this IT failure could make your situation even worse.

People were able to plan around the advance warning, with the expectation that everything would be back to normal on Monday. This was not the case, and people have the right to be angry.

I work in IT, BTW. I would be very unhappy if I let this system go into production in this state. I'd expect to have many dry runs before committing to releasing this publicly.

I was making the point that the issue with TSB was a small one in comparison to what else is going on in the world. My use of the phrase, "first world problem" would, I hoped, have made that apparent. The anger and outrage expressed by some over this small issue with TSB is indicative of a wider problem in our society; we have reached a point where people get outraged about things that are not worthy of it and make a fuss about minor inconveniences as if they are the most important issue of the day, while ignoring the very real problems and injustices that exist. I could have chosen many other issues facing humanity. The whole point was to give some context and, as I have said, a reality check. Contrast, "I can't log in to internet banking on my iPhone X (although I could just phone the bank and arrange a transaction)," with, "I don't have enough food to feed my children and they are dying as a result."

British society has become extremely solipsistic.

Not really. The point I am making is that this is a small inconvenience and not some great outrage.

As I've already pointed out, customers can still use telephone banking and access banking through the branch network. It may be less convenient, but it is hardly worthy of such anger: mild irritation, yes, but anger, no.

Muck ups come with the teritory with IT 'experts'. The best way to lose all your pics, music etc if your computer has a problem, give it to an 'expert'. And then all the other experts think that they are more expert then all the other experts that came unstuck even though they spend their working lives trying to fix IT problems mostly caused by themselves.

I work in IT, BTW:) ha ha.:D I expect it had many dry runs but then there is the need to 'go live'.
