I Hate the term KIDS !!

thanks. it wasn't actually my thread that turned nasty, it was a girl saying she hates the thought of breastfeeding and people were really mean to her. they weren't from the july forum though, they weren't even pregnant, they just jumped on that thread, bounty had to close it. it seems to depend where you are - she felt that everyone breastfed and she was the only person in her town to not want to do it, whereas here everyone seems to bottlefeed (it's free to those on benefits) and breastfeeders are seen as weird hippies (especially if they use washable nappies too!). i've got details of the local NCT breastfeeding counsellor, and apparently my hospital really helps mums who want to breastfeed. i'm feeling quite positive this time around. i've bought terry nappies too - now all i need is a patchwork skirt with bells on the drawstring - ooops, already got one52% tight0

What's wrong with the word kids? It's not like it's new fad of anything, it's a well established word. And as someone pointed out, how can "bad mum" get so irritated by it....after all the word is mother, not mum.
But then we all use shortened words. Some of them bug us, some don't, but the point is that you can't state "the word isn't kids, it's children" as if we only have one word for things in the english language. That's ridiculous, particularly when kids is quite clearly easier to say than chlidren (now hubby for husband is a different matter).
For instance, who says automobile instead of car.
I say there's far better things to save your annoyance for (Richard and Judy, Big Brother, the Crazy Frog, banks etc...)0 -
Hey jelly. Not long to go then! I was originally due in july also but had a miscarriage. I just found out on Tuesday that we're having our third boy!
I've also seen a few breastfeeding posts turn nasty. I personally don't breastfeed but I usually BF while in Hospital at least and for the first day or two. I have really bad skin, excema, psorasis etc and my nips just cant take it. They;re a bit scabby at the moment without even thinking about bf! Still, ill give it a go anyway but do expect to bottlefeed again and im not embarrased about it at all.:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0 -
i'll give it a go, but last time i didn't produce milk, not a single drop. have you tried using a pump to express milk? maybe that would be less irritation to your skin? but no you shouldn't be made to feel guilty about bottlefeeding, nobody made me feel guilty last time but like i said i'm in an area where bottlefeeding is the norm. breastmilk will be cheaper though
congratulations on your little boy :-) i'm having my second boy, my first will probably be 9 by the time this one's born. are you 20 weeks now then? have you been watching desperate midwives on BBC3 on monday evenings? lol!
sorry i've taken this thread off topic, humble apologies! i don't mind people saying 'kids' - what really makes me cringe is trisha-speak - 'at the end of the day' ... grrrr!52% tight0 -
Yes, I have been watching that midwife programme. I think its very good but a bit scary! I am dreading the birth of this baby. My last one was natural with no pain relief and he was big! 10lbs 2 oz!! HAve you thought of names? Were probably going with 'Finn' for this one but MIL hates it. More reason to use it I say...:heart2:I have a child with autism.:heart2:0

i like finn but my husband doesn't. my 8 year old is involved in the naming too and there was nothing the three of us agreed on so we each added names to a list, some duplicated if 2 of us like the name, and each weekend we take it in turns to cross off a nme we hate. the thinking was that although we might not all like the name we ended up with at least nobody would hate it with a passion. we've ended up with spud's choices of william, joseph and reuben although one will be crossed off next sunday, this sunday i'm crossing off dylan. i like william or reuben. MIL has no say in naming the baby, she asked what names we'd thought of and has been campaigning for reuben because spud wants it, i don't think she actually likes it though lol!52% tight0

i cannot stand kids either and because it is now commonly said does not make it right or acceptable.
no wonder the children today are the way they are when they are likened to the young ones of goats
God save us in the world we live in now

 My bro's and I were referred to as "the kids" when we were young and that wasn't 'yesterday'So, I can't agree that using the term "kids" is detrimental to a child's character, manners, behaviour or upbringing.

I like kids, they're fun, lively, noisy, always chattering and get grubby.
I like children too, they're well behaved, with well-groomed hair, pressed clothes, shiny shoes (no mud) and they do their homework and tidy their room when told to.
My two are definitely kids.0 -
