High specification? And you fit basic-mid-range items from bathstore or victoria plumb, Have fitted products from both with issues, pitting of the surface, poor castings

    I smell a rat.......High speciforcation is hansgrohe,bette,duravit,vitra,heritage and daryl

Since you say you do 5-10 a year you should be getting trade discounts of approx 50% retail.

I hope that post is genuine.

You have to consider both looks and cost when developing. I couldn't warrant putting Villeroy & Boch bathrooms in any of my developments either. Bathstore is pretty high spec for a modest sized terrace and if you look at some of the fittings in your average Bryant or Wimpey new build, you'll be struggling to find anything stylish or with any imagination applied.

Maybe high spec isn't the right phrase but nice spec might be appropriate. We upgrade our houses with things like granite worktops, oak flooring etc but it is a lot about the look and a good finish perhaps more than everything of the best spec when it comes to kitchen units or baths and toilets. Our plumbers merchant with the discount we get isn't as cheap as Victoria Plumb. I don't build 5 or 10 houses a year but we've bought 3 bathrooms this year and I need another four right now. Price is a massive issue.

So where do I buy them from?!

I bought a couple of bathroom suites from this company 2 years ago - excellent prices. We only live about 30 mile from them, so collected. All in all I would definately buy from them again. - when we collected, there was one piece missing, but they sent it out to us free within the week, with no chasing them.

I buy most of my sanitryware from PTS

As i buy from them on a weekly basis i can get 51% of list prices of twyfords and ideal standard. Most is in group stock and with me within 48hrs of order

My suppliers price is always cheaper than the web,But you cant compare the likes of victoria plumb or plumbworld as most sell inferior unbranded rubbish

Ceramica from plumbworld may look trendy,The porcelain may be heavy weight but the finish is very poor, oval pipes, pitted surface

Bathstore products can also be sourced from Plumbcenter for less cash if you have a account with wolsely

Too many developers fit cheap rubbish,It may look nice and sell the property but its the poor owners who have to rip out within a few years

Most housebuilders will fit ideal standard, roca, twyfords and vitra

My wording should have been design and maybe not specification but to be honest to the eye how can you tell the difference? My houses look nice and i don't have many problems and thats all that matters to me. My Husband was a director of Persimmons and tells me that lots of the manufacturers he dealt with before are closing down here and setting up in China anyway, so surely the quality will have dropped with the top end brands now! He told me ideal standard were producing in Shanghai!!!!!

At the moment price is the main factor for us as its much much tougher than before to sell a house at high prices.

For our kitchens we use Howdens but use nice handles and granite tops. We have looked online recently but not taken the plunge on kitchens.

    Anobody bought a kitchen online?

Quick update on my order as promised - everything arrived on monday as expected and so far so good. My plumber has checked the products and seemed quite impressed with the quality so will be back next week to get started with the installation.

Will let you know when it's all in!

Thanks for that Outkast, beginning to feel a lot more confident about it now!

Problem with plumbers merchants is they struggle on prices for anything above basic specification products. We have been fitting 6mm frameless sliding and pivot doors and slimline trays and and the local builders merchants will not even attempt to quote on these products against the prices i showed them. There is the convenience factor of a builders merchant giving credit etc but you get 30 days to pay on your credit card anyway. Give them a try on a few products and see how you get on Doozer.

Hi KT1985, out of interest which products did you get for your bathrooms?

I bought the steel bath energy suite, 2 more toilets and sinks from the same range, a phaze kitchen tap, the valencia shower cabin and the double hinged shower screen. All are great now they are in, especially impressed with the shower cabin- it is a touch of luxury at a budget price.

Delivery was also great, it all came the monday that all the snow came back in Feb or whenever. Nothing was broken, and it was all carried upstairs for me whilst I ticked it off on my order sheet.

I wouldn't hesitate to order again, just sad that I don't need to refurbish another house!!

We do use a plumbers merchant and have done for everything we've done so far this year but I don't like the way we have to do business. I get a whole pile of brochures of which I'm supposed to pick something and guess how much it's going to cost me, also you end up up with the owner's opinion of quality and my H's all mixed in as well (ultimately he couldn't care less) which isn't the same as mine so in my own ensuite now I have a really horrid looking toilet and not a brand name in sight anyway :wall:except my Bristan shower which doesn't work.

I really want to be able to compare things properly which is why Victoria Plumb stands out as looking nice and being cheap - I know we're paying higher prices than that for nothing special so maybe it's just worth trying it out.

Going to fill in a trade application for the extra discount.
