The savings were 'emergency' so car unexpected repairs or a a broken fridge for example. This isn't an emergency, but the 'house' savings don't cover the cost.

The date for the windows will be mid Jan so can save a hundred maybe but nothing significant.
Good point re a new emergency fund. I have £100 already so April there should be £400 at least. Thanks for prompting me to do that calculation as it helps me feel safer.

Will do the windows if I get the additional price reduction.
Thanks for your input greenbee :)

It's tough having to do all this stuff by yourself - and balancing the 'I need some savings' against 'I need my home to be habitable' :) I was terrified when I spent pretty much all my accessible savings last year while I was on gardening leave, but the difference to the house having 2/3 of downstairs finished has been phenomenal, and made the transition to the new job much easier. I've topped up my savings, and am now in the spending phase again which I find scary - particularly as there's a lot of change going on at work.

Just think how lovely it will be when it's done. Then you can have a breathing space and save up for the next thing.

So today is my second stay-home NSD of December. I wanted some nuts and dark chocolate and fruit, but I stayed home and washed up LOADS AGAIN and cooked instead.

    Veggie and lentil soup
    Salmon baked
    Turkey and greens pot roasted
    Cauliflower and celeriac rice prepped
    Roasted veggies

I’ve been eating badly these past few days, due to socialising more than often. I’ve also had wine 3 nights running and today I stop both.

I’ve been thinking about the window and despite wiping out all my funds (including emergency savings) I am going to do it.

If I don’t take risks and push myself I won’t get anywhere.

I hope you are all having relaxing Sundays

Well done for being decisive! It won't be long until you replenish your emergency fund.

And well done for staying home and getting stuff done rather than going out and buying snacks.

I've eaten appallingly for the last week (including the last two days, where I've pretty much lived on chocolate and biscuits) and as a result feel terrible (and tired). I've got a beef casserole in the SC, some of which I'll have tonight, some of which I'll freeze.

I've moved everything from the old freezer to the new one, and the old fridge to the new one. The freezer is full, but the fridge is almost empty (despite putting some unopened items in it)!

I've left the old freezer on, as I need to bring in stuff from the outside freezer and have a sort out of what should stay indoors and what should be out - and also label it now I've found the sharpie! I do have a bit of meat that I either need to cook or freeze, but need to make sure that the ready-made stuff is easily accessible inside (and I know what I've got).

The not so good news is I went to the GP on an empty stomach. There was nothing in for breakfast.:o I cracked and bought a veg bowl in Plant Org. £5.50!!! and a coffee £2.30. Add in fares £4 and a shop for nuts and fruits, a 1/2 price flask (to save on future drinks) :money: and dark chocolate £20 and it has been a massively expensive morning £32 gone just like that.

The plumber comes to quote so I will be off cleaning the kitchen now ;)

The good and much more important news is I had my health check and my blood sugars and cholesterol are very good. My BP is also good. I have a 3% likelihood of having a heart attack or stroke in the next 5 years. I am very pleased. :j:jThe only area that needs work is exercise and weight but I already knew that. I’ll be fine once I stop work.

Did you ask when I stop work??? FRIDAY

    Have a good Monday everyone.

Great result on the GP appointment. And you have to treat yourself occasionally :)

I followed your example and called the door people today. Still deciding whether to call the kitchen people. And have mostly given up on the builder. I'll see whether he bothers to get in touch.

Sorry re the builder. I had a plumber's appointment at 5pm. Cleaned the kitchen so a result there as even the floor has been steamed. But no show. Texted and no reply
