I spoke to the window rep today and asked if there was any movement possible on price? He will get back to me tomorrow as he says he needs to speak to the factory.

The plumber got back and is coming on Monday to quote (fingers crossed)

I am trying to stick to £100 (as I have quite a bit in the freezer) for food spending this month. I have £81 left the budget. Today I bought nuts and chocolate (£6.50) and tea, blue corn chips, and G/F cake in the health shop (£12) I now have £62.50 remaining. Quite a lot spent today on food that isn't meals :o

I checked my CU account. I have £1,000 as an emergency account and I am building a second and that has £100 in it. If I can make another £1,000 somehow, I can put it towards the windows.

I am out with friends for dinner tonight. I am taking cash so I won't/can't overspend.

The new backpack is a good size and I am pleased with it. It should save me money as I can pack my lunch/snacks/water and coffee cup now.

  • I'm sure the backpack will save money as taking your own food and drink saves a fortune.

DIA how far have you come , you feared people coming to quote for anything, now you have all trades people coming to quote you.

I hope you enjoyed dinner last night with friends . My back pack is out for holiday and I hope yours is a success as well.

    Thanks Cumbria :)
I have come a long way. I still have the fear but nowhere as bad as before.
I had a lovely meet with friends (although I exceeded my budget by £15)
I am LOVING my backpack :)

I successfully negotiated a reduction in the cost of the windows by 10%
I asked for the price to be brought down again. They seemed receptive but this isn't agreed yet.

I am wondering whether to raid my emergency savings and spend £700 of my living costs for during the sabbatical. If I did that I would have enough to do the windows in January.

I find the thought scary as it leaves me with no emergency savings but doing the huge bay window would be a massive achievement.

Not sure. I will wait until they come back to see if I get a total of an 18% reduction which might make this plan a possibility.

I am WFH today and feeling headachy so grateful for not having to go out and not having to spend on fares or anything else today.

Hope your Saturday is going well.

If they can bring the price down to something you an afford it will be worth it - you may well find your living costs reduce once the windows are done! I know my heating bills went down after I had mine done (I had them all done at once which was traumatic but at least I got it over and done with... I'd hoped to do them in stages, but every time I opened one bits fell off so it was difficult to prioritise!).

Miserable weather here, so I'm not going out, but my new fridge freezer has arrived, so I've taken off all the bits of tape and am leaving it open to get rid of the plastic smell before I transfer stuff over.

I think you may be right about doing the windows. I think I should bite the bullet and do it, but worried about no emergency savings left :(
It is an unused room for now so living costs will stay the same. However, it will be good to bring it back into use.
    Enjoy your fridge-freezer greenbee.

I know it's scary having no savings - I hate spending them even when it's on exactly what I was saving for! Have you worked out how long it will take you to top up your emergency fund again?

Bear in mind that you won't have to pay until the job is done, so you've got a bit of time to scrape together a bit more.

And think how lovely it will be to be able to use your other room.
