    Good morning

This short thread may put your mind at rest (or may not) about checking under the bonnet - in summary not as important as it used to be / but might still prevent something nastier once in a while - usually a check will tell you something is broken (ie leaking) before something more serious happens

There are a few intro guides to basic car mechanics and it may be worth buying the Haynes manual for your car - they're usually only a few quid. I did a car mechanics course for a few weeks - I remember absolutely nil, but it did reassure me that it wasn't rocket science so I felt more confident dealing with the garage. Modern cars are much more computer oriented than old ones so often there isn't much you can do beyond the basics anyway.

@rosa, @mark88, many thanks, I will look into your helpful suggestions :)

My scarf and gloves arrived today. :) I am glad I waited until the sales as the gloves are gorgeous and were £35 and dropped to £15. The scarf had the same reduction and is lovely too. I am still waiting for the parka to drop further and if it does I will buy it by borrowing from next month’s salary, as I will get lots of wear from it.

To MnS for eggs and saw smoked salmon reduced from £5 to £2.10. Also in the antipasti section sun dried tomatoes usually £2.95 were clearing for 25p a jar. :money: A combination of both these offers came to £35 and I used a voucher to save £5. :money: I now have tons of smoked salmon in the freezer. Both these buys really jazz up ordinary food like potatoes. So, I will be making salmon and spinach and sun dried tomato frittata to start with.

I’m off to a coffee shop to work today with my laptop. It will cost £4 in fares and the same again in coffee but if I get more work done it will be worth it

Confession: the frogs remain uneaten and will be hopping over to tomorrow :o

    Have a good day everyone

Sounds like a very sensible investment in meal building blocks. Smoked salmon scrambled eggs has to be one of the best quick meals ever.

I will pm you beanie. I made the mistake of posting on one of the the old style frugal thread about my attempt to live on £1,000 for my income monthly. Cue lots of remarks about how they are living on 50p and an apple every month, raising a family, a village of 600 on that sum. Blah, blah. I found it hurtful so don't want people looking at the clothes and doing a similar thing. I know I shouldn't care, anyway will pm you. It is an expensive company but in my defence the plan is to buy very high quality items (only in the sale) and making them last :)

It was a good idea to get out of the house. My work went well :T at last.

I also managed to write a letter to my friend in Oz and get it posted too.

I bought a book in the charity shop. Whoops.

The plan for tomorrow is to stay home now I have got going with my project. I am actually looking forward to doing it again tomorrow. I will prep the room so I can start immediately on waking. Tomorrow will also be a NSD.

I wore my new coat/scarf out today and I noticed I got very good reactions from people, probably because I felt good. I even had a few men smiling at me and saying hello and I smiled and said hello right back. Just shows looking better makes me feel better :)

Tomorrow I will do a walk but the focus will be on work and I don't mind that at all.

I hope you had a good day too :)

I guess I also forget not everywhere is as supportive as DFW. It's your money and your choice how you spend it, frugal to me is as much about thoughtfully choosing exactly where you put your money for best value not just spending as little as possible regardless of the outcome.

I'm wearing sale LK Bennett and recycled cashmere and I don't give a monkey's what anyone has to say about it, particularly if they are buying poor quality, slave labour disposable fashion that needs replacing rapidly and just adds to landfill.

I dislike smug judgmental people too . Your money, you choose how you spend it.

I think good quality clothing is MSE because it lasts years and years. Much better than disposable fashion.
