Over the years, the colour and layout and features of the forum has changed.
The one you will be seeing, people call the 'new' blue one. It is the latest one.
The one immediately before that, people call the 'green' one because it has a lot of green, rather than blue on it, and the layout is very, very different to the new blue one.
The official name of that green one is 'New masthead, fixed width, (recommended)'.
I joined in 2014 and that is the one I first saw, and which I still prefer.
As you joined recently, I believe that you don't have the option to choose a previous skin, but people who joined prior to the new blue one do have the option.
There were other previous formats (skins) which, at the moment, older members have the option of staying with, or choosing.
What Andrea is saying is that, after the latest alterations have been made, those previous skins will no longer be available, and anyone still using them, about 1000 people, will be moved onto the latest green format 'New masthead, fixed width(recommended)' or they can change to the new blue one.(I just lurve spiders!)

I don't know why the blue skins exist. It always seems whenever the green versions are mentioned, there are a lot of members that say they prefer the older/green versions. I rarely if ever see someone saying they prefer blue.
I assumed with faced with the difficult to read blue skin, it would quickly be phased out due to unreadability. I love MSE but the change did not make sense.., it just wasn't readable.
Was it tested before being introduced?
Why is it still there? I assume there must be some advantage to MSE but can't think what.., surely its helpful to have members who can read the forum easily?
Thank you for letting us know about the changes although I am not sure what it means to me, I rarely fiddle with settings. If I can read it, that's good enough for me. I changed from new blue to green and no idea how I did it now. Thank you to members who posted how to change back again if something does go wrong.
Why not have a poll and act on it if MSE wants to reduce the number of skins? I suspect Blue would not be a favourite. I am another user that would not use MSE if it was blue only as I just couldn't read the posts easily.0 -
Can we PLEASE stop the spam with this updated version?
I am fed up of opening spam posts and clicking on spam.
Will the update help to deny the spammers access?
Can anyone answer this?0 -
They have it back to front. Only 1000 DON'T use the green version!"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

I believe they mean there are only 1000 users of certain versions of the green skin. If you look at the options there are currently 7 different green versions available plus the blue.

Oh, wait, that's right, you can't read it. It said: "Great. Now, how about re-enabling Unicode?" Only using fullwidth characters. Putting in accents is equally broken. It's ridiculous to have no support for such a basic feature of the modern web for two months.
