  • UK and Western Europe maps version of the TomTom One with 'safety camera' database and 1GB memory is probably worth the £13 more than the Amazon TomTom One which has less memory and only the UK maps.

  • If you're having trouble locating a Currys with this in stock, you may still be able to get it....
Currys tend to make their price reductions on a Sunday, with Pcworld making the same reductions on the following Thursday.
So there is a chance if you click on this link on Thursday, the price might be the same (worth a try) http://www.pcworld.co.uk/product.php?sku=205208
There are also reports that Pcworld will price match Currys at this price, if you take in a screen-print off the Currys website.
How true this is, i'm not sure, and guess will be down to the store management decision.

None in east midlands at pc world/currys... think staff may have swept them all up for xmas/ebay!!!

If you have an up to date Symbian Phone (Nokia N73, N95 etc) you can get Tom-Tom software for your phone for around £80. You do need a bluetooth GPS reciever (which you can pick up on ebay for about £20) but even with that it's still loads cheaper than a stand alone unit. There are no extra hidden GPS costs as all tom-tom is doing is effectvley using the phone as a 'host' for the software. The little bluetooth receivers are amazing, (mine even works keeping it in the glove box!).

I also have a bluetooth handsfree headseat and was pleased to discover that when this is also on, the verbal directions go directly into the headset (thus avoiding potentially annoying other passengers).

It's worked out great for me as I always have my tom-tom with me cos I always have my phone with me! So no more getting paranoid about leaving it in the car, or getting cheesed off having an extra thing to carry around!

  • I have an Orange mobile (SPV-M700). This has a built in GPS receiver (no need for a bluetooth receiver). I installed Tom Tom on the phone and it works great. I bought from Handtec, which will deliver Tom Tom Navigator 6 (UK maps) on a mini SD card for under £62. Whats more, there is space on the card for other things, files, music, photo's etc, or you can transfer the TomTom software to a larger card.
The beauty of this is the phone always goes everywhere with me, so I always have satnav available and it doesn't get left in the car.
P.S. Don't use the free Orange Satnav, this uses your GPRS to constantly upload maps rather than having them in the SD card to access, so you pay for data transfers every time you use it. TomTom is from the stored maps, so is free to use once purchased.
  • Want a SatNav ? I got mine as a free gift, over 50 then go for the Axa Sunlife over 50's insurance thats advertised on TV. It costs from £6 a month, then pick the SatNav as a free gift, you get it within 28 days of paying your first premium, My one I got is a "My Guide" appears to be a top of the range model, it's got all the gadgets in it and works well and on top of that you have Life Insurance as well.

    Another top tip...

Never put your home address on the sat nav unit choose a few streets away as your "Home" setting otherwise theives will drive straight to your door !
I'm calling büllshit on this - my satnav has home programmed in by postcode and not street/house number

Unless the cunning car thief knows what house I live at, he's got 14 houses pick from to find my home
