Cheapest Sat-Navs available

What's the deal?
The price of in-car satellite navigation systems has crashed through the sub £90 barrier with a range of models now available to chose from, starting at just £60.
Cheapest available (all with pre-installed UK road maps)
- Medion GOPAL PNA 210 £60 in-store at Currys. This basic model has a 2.8" touchscreen, 256MB memory, postcode navigation and voice directions with arrow or bird's eye navigation. It's a clearance item though so is likely to sell out quickly (especially after my weekly email tells 1.5 million people about it) and it depends on the store. To get one, use Currys' reserve and collect function to find and save one at a convenient store.
- Garmin StreetPilot i3* (refurb) £85 delivered inc. Europe Maps. Comet's selling this model as a factory refurbished (no original box, 12 month Garmin warranty) for £85. It has a 2.4" screen, 2D & 3D display plus major European maps pre installed in addition to the UK and Ireland (I had one of these until it was stolen, it's a perfectly functional easy to use little sat-nav).
- BlueMedia BM-6300* £90 delivered. This is available from Amazon with 2D & 3D day or night displays and destination information can be given in the form of postcodes, addresses or points or interest (eg shopping centres, hotels). It has a very generous 3.5" screen, plus is complete with voice directions.
- TomTom ONE v3 Great Britian Edition £127 delivered. Although not the cheapest Sat Nav on the market, I've included this in for good measure as it's regarded to be the most reliable and many people prefer the TomTom system. Amazon's selling it cheapest at £127,

How do these gadgets actually work then?
For all the non-technology savvy, a sat nav relies on GPS (Global Positioning System), meaning it'll receive signals from satellites to tell you where exactly you are on earth.
Simply type in the postcode and the system will work out where you are and how to get you to where you want to be in a few seconds, saving both time, energy and anxiety if you're a bit lost.
Unfortunately, even with how advanced technology is today, the system isn't 100% reliable and will never beat local knowledge; but nonetheless, it's a very handy gadget to have if you frequently visit new places.

I have the PNAS205, it's european model version number. Works pretty well, apparently you can install Tom tom on it. It did try to kill me in Leeds on saturday as it told me to turn onto a one way street and drive the wrong way
otherwise it's good0 -
at lunchtime today there were a few left at the Brent X branch in NW London, but going fast.0
-
Picked mine up from Chelmsford today and the woman said they have sold loads and loads of these since Feb, and they have never had one back in that store:D she also said they have had a lot TomToms back. so its looking good.
All I have to do now is set it up, it comes with 4 cd's:eek:No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -
adwozere - all those CDs are for reinstalling it.. you can just plug the thing into your power socket in the car and go.. no need for any install unless you want to connect it to your PC for some reason
btw, on my model you can also use it to view pictures on SD cards from digital cameras0 -
