Can I pick your brain about internet security, I'm sure you've told me on here before that you'd never go with Norton for your tech, who would you recommend?

I would recommend reading this Anti-Virus guide (Link)

I use Avast sometimes and sometimes AVG, depending on how the mood takes me. Both have free versions and have served me well for about 5 years. Links are in the above guide. Both have been great for Windows and Macs.

Personally I wouldn't touch Norton or McAfee with a barge-pole when free versions of other software are fine for personal use. Also Norton uses up tonnes of your computer's resources. It slows everything down; memory hog. It's also really hard to uninstall once you have it. And one time Norton detected ITSELF as a virus. :rotfl: In the IT industry Norton is regarded as a joke.

For mobile phones I seem to remember that both Avast and AVG have free mobile versions but one of them puts adverts on your locked screen. I don't remember which. :(

Panda is mentioned in the guide. I've never heard of it.

Also, I don't use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel etc) at home. I use OpenOffice. It's free and common sense. (Link) You can still open Word etc and save as Word etc. And it doesn't take up a tonne of space.

Cheers Ally. When my son got his new mobile earlier in the year and he was having problems you recommended Avast and since putting that on he's had no problems. My dh knows it that that tip came from this thread so I'm thinking now is my chance to try swaying him away from his Norton! I did try searching the mse site but it was really old pages I came up with so thanks again for the link :) you're a star!

I remember the conversation...I think...that was a while ago...I've eaten a lot of Smarties since then...was it a pop-up that was blocking your DS from using his phone?

Dawn hope the exercises continue to help, hows your brother doing?

Thanks Purps, my brother is doing ok I think. Historically he is not great at sharing any problems until it is too late to do anything about them though :( He seems happy enough, and likes where he is working atm. I have to go to his flat to let someone in the change the meters tomorrow morning, and will take cleaning stuff with me!

    Morning all :)
I have to wait in today for a courier to collect my WeBuyBooks parcel, so no excuse not to do the housework! It is also raining, which will prevent me escaping into the garden :rotfl:Hoovered downstairs, the actual stairs (or at least one set of them) and the bathroom before the battery ran out on the vacuum cleaner. Moved some stuff around and did some dusting. Courier came for parcel :)
    Other than that:
Porridge and HG fruit from freezer for breakfast Done
Fold dry washing on airer and put away Done
Check banks and update spreadsheet Done
Not planning any spends today! I follow one of the monthly challenges, part of which is a (high imho) NSD target, which I always miss :o because it suits me to shop several times weekly in small quantities instead of a big weekly shop. Cheaper too, to make use of local markets etc instead of relying on supermarkets - though Aldi Super Six looks good this week! NSD achieved :D
Parsnip soup for lunch, with more of the olive bread I made a couple of days ago :)Done
Stew for dinner, made a huge pot at the weekend. I will freeze any left over today I think! Had two thirds of the huge pot that I had made left. Used one third topped with potato and grated cheese, with roasted carrots, parsnips and onions, steamed cabbage and gravy. Froze the rest for another meal :D
Check for surveys, though this will NOT stop me from doing the housework! Not done

Definitely more coffee needed before I start the housework though :o

Received a letter this morning informing me that my gall bladder op will be on 11 April
Discovered pools of water in fridge under the salad drawers at the bottom - the drainage hole thingy was bunged up with horrible gunk again, and the water couldn't run away . Wondered why things in the drawers seemed a bit damp  All cleaned out now!

I also heard that my nan who passed away before Christmas has left all us grandkids £200 in her will too which was a complete suprise. I'm thinking I might spend some of that money to buy some rose bushes for the garden as she loved roses and I think she'd approve.

    I think that is a lovely idea 1LL :)
Must go and do my exercises now - I have done the standing up ones, but tend to put off the lying on the floor ones :rotfl:

Good fix, Dawn. This is more common in hardwater areas, I think. If memory serves me correctly when your fridge is working you may notice ice building up on the back wall of the fridge. This condensates and runs into the drain hole and then along a pipe. The pipe leads to a container on the fridge motor. The heat from the motor wams the water which evaporates away. If the hole inside your fridge gets blocked this cycle stops and the water overflows. If you are in a hardwater area you might want to descale the hole to lessen the liklihood of that happening again. Lemon, white vinegar or citric acid should do it.

    Hello Everyone,

Today was my last day of holiday for the year, it has not been a rest!

    - Popped with Mum to look at lighting and new flooring for her house.
    - Had a telephone consultation with my daughters specialist nurse, which resulted in needing to pop to the Drs to drop off a repeat prescription request.
    - Went to DD school assembly and then dropped her for after school activity.
    - Booked house for summer hols only a few days away staying near friends 10mins walk but felt it was better to have space.
    - Topped up the pension pre end of Tax year
    - Moved money into the right places
    - Applied for a grant for DD
    - Completed internet shop for collection on Friday.

I am looking forward to my bed!

We are in a very hard water area, and this does happen every now and then. I hadn't thought of descaling the hole though - I will try that, thanks!

Off to my brother's flat this morning to wait for the power company to change the meters. Will go armed with cleaning materials, but will open windows first despite the weather due to horrible tobacco smoke smell
Not sure how long I will be there, so can't make any grand plans. I do intend to stop off at Aldi on the way back to have a look at their super 6 veg though!
