    HI everyone,

DH went to a meeting today about all the redundancies, and he's been told that he is safe for now as all those going have already been told and they are giving him some other quarries not originally mentioned.

Also as a bonus they have reviewed the pay and training structure and as of June 30th he has a pay rise of £1400 a year!:T The new grading means that he is currently on the lowest of a 3 point scale but with training he will increase the grade. It has peed some people off who have worked there for 15 years and have no increase but they are lazy and don't want to do the training.

So we're OK at the moment, there may be some more redundancies in January but there are other people who would go before dh and he is going to do as much training as possible and also should still start his degree course in September so will all put him in a better position of being a valuable member of staff.

So still need to work hard with finances to build up savings before January just in case, but at least we know where next months pay is coming from.

    Pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeew (for now!)

That's excellent news, plus the training will assist DH improve his prospects in future if job change is required. Do get the CV updated anyway (which is advice I should heed too..) Best wishes.

Wow Eva I'm really delighted that things have worked out well for you - I can well imagine what a huge sense of relief you must be feeling. Had the worst come to the worst though, you already had the groundwork done with knowing how to budget and make a little stretch a long way, and that would have stood you in excellent stead.

Glad the graduation went well too - you both look lovely in the picture and your DH looks so proud of you!

Thanks everyone, a huge relief and he will work hard in the next 6 months to build up his training. He is actually smiling today!

He works for an international aggregates and premix company and the quarries provide the raw material, he tests concrete, aggregate and other materials to check they are up to standard.

    Hi all,

Getting back into money saving although just paying off a few things first and dh spent loads over the weekend on food and drink, feeling very guilty but it doesn't bring back the pennies!

Oh well he must have been letting out his relief.

Have some girls clothes to list on ebay but otherwise very slow going at the moment.

Off to the park with dd soon, then to see midwife later - less than 3 weeks to go, feeling achy now!

    Good morning :hello:

Not a lot to report from North Wales, it's very hot and I'm starting to feel uncomfortable now feet and hands swollen but lovely dh has told me to sit down and relax so that's what I'm doing!

We have been really good with the pennies so will start to see benefits soon as will transfer some money to savings when a couple of bills paid. Had a reduction in gas payments each month but redundancy cover has gone up (need to check out other insurance firms to make sure we are still getting the best deal). I went to the local farm shop and some of the fruit, veg and meat is a lot cheaper than the supermarket and straight off the farm so will get as much as we can from there then the rest from Mr T's. Mr T's are building a new store on the next road to us so will be really handy to build up our points to save for a holiday.

Need to put aside some money to pay for a course that dh will hopefully be doing in September which will give him a qualification in computer servicing so it will be another backup should he lose his job in the future - he is already pretty good but has no paper qualifications (unfortunately didn't do a trade in the army - and can't use his sniping skills out here unless he wants to get into a lot of trouble :rotfl:).

Seedlings are growing well, will be able to transfer to veg patch soon. DD and I made some little signs yesterday so we know which is which, I'll post some pics when they go in the patch.

So everything OK at present, still waiting for baby Tom to make an appearance - 2 weeks until due date!

    Ev
