Welcome to our band of merry debtors! Re what to do with the job that is one that only you know. Is it where you work or the job you do thats the issue? If its the former could you work elsewhere? If you loathe the work is it something that you could transfer skills with to a different area but still using your experience? Possibly if you are able to get a good work life balance that could help make you happier? Its a tough one...I know in my job I have to work at getting work life balance or I get miserable....but its the kind of job that works with people so sometimes hard to let go...not sure if that helps?
hello wendy & johhny! Have had NSD here but back to work tomorrow, although planning another NSD then too!! Want to end the money with extra money to pay off CC so trying to not spend on rubbish!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -

Thanks ISOM - that's kind of how i feel
People I work with are really nice on the whole so it's more the job i do. I have done it for 12 years now and hated it for about 10! Just need to figure out what to do instead - that would be start
Anyway, on a brighter note - had call from Co-Op tonight with whom we have cc debt. Advised them of situation (1 month in arrears with them) and they were remarkably polite and decent. Chap i spoke to said if i could make interim payment of £5 they would put a hold on account and wouldn't get any more phonecalls. He would "update system" that they will shortly hear from CCCS. DH had similar conversation with Goldfish. So, 2 down about 10 to go - fingers crossed that they are all that reasonable?
I do wonder if it will get easier for us debtors, as the more and more of us that there are, the more staff will be needed to chase payments etc and i can't see banks throwing good money after bad so to speak. I'm sure I'm living in cloud cuckoo land, but I do wonder if the banks will start accepting DMP's more readily as economically, it must cost them so much more to keep chasing?
Thanks for the welcome and I'll keep you posted (pun intended)

Hi All,
Thanks for letting me join your club:beer:
A little bit about me........
In true rags to riches style I came from nothing and ended up with a national business turning over £800k in my first year. managed to turn the 2 up 2 down we used to live in to a rental property and also set up another limited company which i bought another house to rent out in.
Everything going fine and dandy until the company I had the contract with made internal redundancies and legally had to terminate my contract.
43 staff out of a job and my life in shatters
Victim of my own ego as when things were good I bought a lovely 4 bed detached, BMW X5, lived a good life, now left in huuuugggeee debt. At least 40k of bad debt.
I thought the only answer was bankruptcy and winding up my 2 companies so I posted on the BR and living with it board. That was nearly 3 weeks ago and i have turned round full circle (well 3/4). I now no longer want to go BR, have accepted times will be hard but I am going to work my !!! off as a taxi driver to pay all my debts off and keep food on the table. If you get chance to read my ramblings you will see the change in me:j
I know I'm in for the long haul so thanks for my number and here's wishing every one all the best in clearing their debts.0 -

Hi there
I am a member of the DMP Mutual Support Thread, but thought I should probably join this thread too (if I may) as currently my DFD is June 2015. Not bad considering the extent of my debts, but I am in a bit of a quandry at the moment;
I dislike my current job rather a lot, (mild understatement) but have continued to do it cos it pays quite well (well very well I guess) . Part of my LBM was realising that dispite getting paid well, I was getting stressed by a job I hated (was signed off with stress last year) and was still not earning enough to pay all the bills anyway.
So, I thought a DMP would be the way forward and we are due to make our first payment next month. However, my problem is that I have used my current salary in DMP budget, which has produced a payment to CCCS of £1497. This is a good sum of money and with tweaking the remaining budget in other areas, we can probably save a bit more than this to make overpayments etc, and maybe dring DFD forward a year or so.
My problem is that I desperately want to leave my job and because I am not trained for anything else, I would have to take a pay cut, and this would mean reducing DMP payment (not too worried about what creditors will say as they have not been offered anything yet).
I guess my question is this;
Should I consider my work/life balance in overall considertaion of repaying my debts? If i stick to this job (tho god knows if I could do this for another 7 years) the debts will be paid of quicker, but I don't think I am going to be very happy along the way. Alternatively, I could take longer to repay the debt (but probably only another couple of years) by taking a lower paid job but be much happier along the way.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom for me?
EDIT : PS - I really must work on my signature!
Oh loopylu36 my heart goes out to you. It really does. Mywife was off work for 9 months with stress ( works in a school) and she should really be off now but circumstances meant that she had to go back or we would have lost the house. Like you she hates the job but with the long time off sick if she goes for another job they will ask her how long she had been off in the last 12 months etc. She therefore has to remain in work for at least 12 months to get over this.
Our DFD is november 2027 or something like that so changing jobs for us is not going to do much but for you the decision has to be yours. It's not sitting on the fence but only you know the extent of that feeling in the pit of your stomach when you get up in the morning or the feeling when your line manager is whining like a stuck pig etc.
Work life is important, very important but so is your quest for being debt free. For now i'd be tempted to reduce the amount you pay to the CCCS, there are ways,lol and then save a bit each month wilst still doing the job you have. Then after say 12 months you will have saved say £1200 and this might give you a buffer to get a new lower paid job.
As I say only you can make the right decision for you.0 -
Hi everyone.
I haven't posted in a while but I've been reading others. Slowly and surely I'm making progress on the debt busting front. I've just updated my signature and realised I've broken the £10k on my personal loan :j:j and whilst my two CCs are higher than I would like, I'll keep chipping away at them and the slow monthly reduction in my sig is lovely to see :T
Now starting the 4th month of my budget and it's getting easier too, although I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to squeeze £80 to buy the running shoes I now need. I'll figure it out somehow.
Keep plugging away people we WILL get there :AThe 365 Day 1p Challenge 2025. Member #420 -
Well I screwed up yesterday and thought I had more left over this month than I had thought. I did over pay the laon for the first time by £100 and should still be in the black. This time of year I have more "spare" cash its the last six months that are tough. I cant overpay now because I will need it later. Have looked into a higher instant access account though to make the most of any savings.
Feeling a bit fed up that this is going to take so long and I finding it tough to find extra for overpayments. The positive is Im not further in debt and it is going down.:j0 -
