TMD probem is that is he hasnt had a LBM that bank wont make a difference as all will happen is you go BR, struggle for 6 years until you get credit and then restart the cycle me thinks? The long haul is hard, we will slip up & fall off the wago but if we dont learn the lesson now (sadly the hard way) I know that I have no hope for the future! At least with the long hard plod I know there is light & real change...hope OH gets a rocket up his b*** lightbulb moment & jongs you in debtbusting. I dont have an oh but would find it really hard battling alone...hugs for you in this as it must makethe journey even harder...

I know ISOM, that's why I'm digging my heels in - much to his annoyance ha ha - coz I need to be sure that he understands that he won't get a penny extra if we went BR and I don't think he's fully grasped that concept yet. I love him dearly and he's very kind, loving and a great dad but sometimes I could hit him with a hammer! The noose is tightening around his neck, financially speaking!, and he's not happy but it's\not like he can drag me to see the Judge and declare Bankruptcy, so this is one stubborn battle I'm happy to drag out.

  • Meant to add too ..... I found out this morning that my Auntie had died - I'm sad, but okay - but I think I had an hour or two of "what the F*** am I doing this for when I could be LIVING" so that was partly to blame for my negative, give up, frame-of-mind.

    Tomorrow's another day.

Sweet dreams all and thanks for keeping me focussed.

I'm not very good with figures (obviously, that's why i'm here, right!?) but i'd like to work out my income/debt percentage like you have in your sig. can you give me the formula please. I'll work it out tomorrow as I'm off to bed now.

    thanks in advance.

Welcome thevinternet! Incredible that were up to 110!!

Hugs TMD. Hope today is a better day for you & sorryto hear about your aunt. RE Oh how about listing the impact that going BR would have on you as a family vs slogging it to pay it off and go through the list togeather? May help focus his attention a bit more and get him on board? Just an idea...

Doubt that I'l have any NSD this week as I have mum here & I'm on a weks hol, although having said that will possibly have one tody as mum paying for us o have a spa dy so have a hot stones massage & reflexology treatmet booked! Bliss as my back is killing me - too much typing me thinks lol!!

The equation for working out % det to salary is:
total debt divided by wages x 100 = % debt

Mine is 92% but alot better than my previous 137%!! Taken since Oct 06 but am nearly nw paid of 10,000. It would have been more but I had a major 5000 blip in the middle!! Wont be doing that again! You'd think I'd learn the lesson the first time but nope, had to go in for a second!! Must say I dont recommend it though!! Hugs all!

Hello everyone, and thanks to In Search of Me for the great welcome!!

Well, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is thevinternet, and I'm in about 40k worth of debt. Luckily, a good deal of that is a student loan (about 16k) so things aren't quite as bad as they sound, although some of the cash is on very high interest CC - so I'm trying to pay those off first. Also there's a couple of loans in there and some tax I owe. Basically I put my debt down to a few things...I handled being self-employed incredibly badly and got myself into trouble there - I then took a loan out to pay off CCs and respent on them (idiot!!). I also had a taxi addiction for a couple of years; I got them absolutely every where, even the journeys to work and back (2 miles!), and of course the costs mounted up quickly. Another problem was buying expensive gifts for other people, but I think I've got it under control now. I know money can't buy you love, but I've just loved the looks on people's faces when I've got them lovely gifts....well now I'm paying for it!!

I'm also a part-time student again - which is going to get me a much better job in 3 years time.

My OH knows I'm in some debt, but he doesn't know the extent of it. I know people would advocate telling him, but I know he'd just ask his parents to pay it off for me, and I feel like I need to deal with this on my own. If I'm ever going to learn not to be so spendy, it'll be the hard way!! My LBM came in February when I got a letter threatening the bailiffs, which terrified me into getting my bum into gear!! The memory of it is what keeps me going on this quest.

Since joining this board a month or so ago, things have been going really well for me. I kind of see it as my focus point for saving cash - whenever I'm disheartened, I come back here and always seem to leave feeling better. That's down to you guys, so thanks! :T I'm not sure I'd be strong enough to do it on my own.

My tactics are: spend a lot less, take packed lunches to work and college, have lots of part-time jobs (three plus Ebay!!) and generally re-educate myself about money. I've also been doing bingo and pigsback etc which have been brilliant - thanks for the tips!!

Anyway, I've wittered on enough now - just wanted to say thanks and I look forward to being a Long Hauler from now on!!

    V xxx
