Hi ISOM. OH & I Have been together for 9 years & have had some great times & still do. I used to be great with money believe it or not! I never even know how a CC worked(which i think is part of the reason we're in the mess we are today)! My debts started after i came out of a previous relationship. I bought a house just a couple of months before my ex & I split up & with all the emotions with splitting up started to live the life of a single guy, going out on the beer & trying to erase the feeling of being lonely. I got a CC & when i ran out of money would just withdraw on the CC. Then i met my OH,who has been a rock to me. She was a single Mother with a lovely five year old Daughter & held down 2 part time jobs & brought her Daughter up really well. She had a few debts too. She & DD(i class her as my own & her dad is a waste of space who used to beat OH up & she has nothing to do with him) ended up moving out of her 2 bedroomed flat to move into my terraced house. We were happy in the house but didn't budget very well. The plan was always to move to the area we are in now as we didn't want DD to go to the local secondary school as without being disrespectful,is one of the roughest in our city. We were getting the house doneup really nice & had new PVC windows & French Doors fitted when the neighbours from hell moved in next door! There we were with around £10k of debt & noisey neighbours & i talked to OH about moving to where we are now. She agreed & we sold up & moved. We made £19,000 on the house after fees & put £10k down on the home we are in now, with the intention of paying off most of our debt with the rest of the money. Having that sort of money in the bank was like winning the lottery & we ended up frittering it away, going on 2 holidays, one abroad & one at Butlins. I also went down to London to see an old mate & ended up spending £500 on Designer Clothes, bought OH an ngagement ring . We were so irresponsible it's unreal looking back. We needed quite a bit of work doing on our house & i got a 'mate' who is an 'electrician' to rewire it for us,costing us £1,800. The mess he made was unbelievable & we got a good friend of my brother's to put everything right, costing another £400 & she bought me a watch costing £250. Had a new Central Heating system fitted & instead of getting a local plumber to do the work went & got a well known national company to do it & although they did a great job it cost over £4,000! Added to the mortgage to buy a nearly new car & spent more & more doing the house up. The house is beautiful now & hopefully we won't have to spend much more on it for a few years. Had some great times together but we are now paying the price for living way above our means & robbing Peter to pay Paul. We're so glad that we found this site & Martin & you good people are an inspiration to us. Just feel so sorry for the people out there(and we all know a few) who are still spending money they don't have as they will end up hitting a brick wall & not have any chance of getting out of the mess they're in if they don't do anything about it. So there's a little(well a bit more than a little:D ) about myself. I have a diary on here which i update once a week & i am doing the £10 a day ckallenge & OH & I are also doing your £8000 in 2008 challenge. So thanks for reading & good luck on your DFW journey. Hi folks. Not been on here for a few days. Just beeen updating my diary quickly. I had an assignment to do for a diploma I am taking through work. All done now and posted on Friday so hopefully that will pass. I had said I needed £250 per month for 0% debts I have up until November. I actually need £300 per month  . Not sure if it is do-able but I will go hell for leather to try and manage it. I've got 26 items on e-bay this weekend so hopefully that will get me started. I hope you are all faring well xx5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.

Can understand the frustration CC but you do need to be careful - you dont want someone taking legal action against you to add to your worries....why not have a look at the reclaiming bank charges thread?!!
What frustrated me was that I had a great little candle making business, candles selling for £70 a pop in the likes of Harrods and the Savoy and my general order value was for £500 or so then i got hit by two design agencies with combined orders for £47,000 ! I needed to borrow £10k for 3 months to do the orders and I'd have been left with around £37k profit and the bank manager said " you will never make money out of candles"
How many peeps on here use candles??
Exactly, and mine were the best you could ever experience.
still it's back to being a hobby now.0 -

I don't feel I am doing as well this month, I seem to have slipped off the wagon when it comes to limiting my social life and have actually been out twice a week for the last three weeks, although I have not bought in rounds, I have still spent a tenner each time .
I also had a nasty car crash yesterday, a young lad switched lanes in front of me to exit a roundabout and smashed into the front of my car. I am going to have to use my meagre savings to pay the insurance excess. I was in the clear regarding blame so am hoping I can claim this back. I am in soooooo much pain today and am recovering at home, have had to type this with my good arm as can't move the other one properly and have pins and needles. It never rains but it pours!!Second and final LBM 01/01/11 Nearly got there but fell of wagon. HAVE to do it this time :mad:0 -
Oh Squirral29 ((((((hugs)))))) what rotten luck. I hope you feel better soon and the claim etc goes through smoothly.:j0

Sorry to hear about your accident Squirrel, sending hugs your way and hope you can claim back the excess at it wasn't your fault. Hope no lasting damage with the pain!
