I also wouldn't go to A&L purely because of their policy of taking debits before credits. OH's wages went in one month and we had 2 d/d's going off that day. Even though the balance suggested they would be covered, they charged me £35 each for bouncing the payments. Also, when they switched my d/d's from the old bank account, they "missed off" two of them. Consequently, when my fridge freezer conked out in October, the insurance company wouldn't pay up as they hadn't received any d/d payments since March and had cancelled the policy. Not a happy bunny indeed!
Have since gone back to my old bank and can't wait to clear A&L overdraft so that I can close the account. Just my thoughts, but hope it helps.
Read this post and I decided to close the A&L Account because of the charges. Got onto the phone and asked them to close the account. Got passed through to what was probabbly the customer retention dept and the nice girl on the phone said if I kept the account open with the A&L she could refund £50 in charges now, would i be happy at that? I said no because I am owed over £600 in these administreation charges but I'd take her £50 non the less. She is going to credit £50 now so she says..... not that I'm holding my breath or anything but I'll try it again next week for another £50.....lol.0 -

Hi all. I have an alliance and leicester account but I just use it for my weekly money so have never gone over yet. I haven't got any dd's on it mind you and from what I have read I wont be doing so either. I had some good news yesterday. I have at last got a decent maintenance assessment through CSA so my belt can get loosened a notch :j . I wont count on it though until I get it in my account as ex is not exactly reliable. I havent made any overpayments this month yet
. Car is going in for an MOT on Monday and I am afraid to use any money until I know what that will set me back. Fingers crossed it isnt too much.
