Hello All,
We went to Daddy Rivett's parents on 22nd December and stayed right through till late NYE, they live in Blandford Forum. No Internet and no temptation to spend, so we actually had a wonderful time, enjoying games, stories and films. I was honest with them about our situation and shared the plan on how we intend to get out of it.
When you go through January and February everything seems such a long way off and the warm cosiness of Christmas seems so long gone. But be encouraged, we are all here together to get ourselves straight once and for all.
Many of you have shared and encouraged me with your saving tips and the amount you have all paid back is amazing. This January I am excited to be able to say, this is it, knowing that I didnt sell myself short in December and actually paid off over £400 on my debts. So thank you all for your help in December and here's to a successful 2013.- MSE Forum Achievements:

Hi all, no 136 reporting, I havent been on here much but am nearly at my DFD and just wanted to wish you all a wonderful Xmas and successful New Year.
Every little payment brings our DFD ever nearer, all we need to do is keep at it which I know sometimes is easier said than done!! But that is all we need to do, that is what the last 2 years have taught me.
Take care all!xx
Wow, well done jacci! How does it feel to be so close?
We start this year with £44k of CC debt, all at 0% (except BCard at 6.9% for life of balance) until varying points in the year so it is a race against the end of deals to pay them off. Ideally I would like to pay off £15k by the end of August to prevent having to BT too much but that is wildly optimistic...
Well done everyone, keep it up :T:TDMP started Oct '17: £79,974 :eek::eek::eek::eek:0 -
Hello
Today I worked out my DFD is Jan 2016. Its a liberating but a daunting fact.
I really would like to get debt free, get an emergency fund and start making my money work for me. I know this won't be easy.
My main excuse for the £15k of debt is me and my partner have been on 8 holidays in 3 years (Vietnam, Thailand, Marrakech etc) and bought a house (debt is excluding mortgage) and I have put it all on credit. I'm very lucky and have a reasonable wage and credit rating so everything is on 0% or borrowed from the bank of mum and dad.
I've been stupid but had my LBM a while back, expenses have been cut and I am learning the ways of the MSE!
Would you mind if I joined you all on here as I need support and maybe a touch of supervision to keep me on my debt reducing way?
Thank you, in advance, for your support.£6686 CC as of 02/03/2017
Goal to be Debt free by May 2017 and have savings of £10k by November 2017.....0 -
I also have an enormous debt to pay off, so I'm in this for the long haul, but probably for the first time in about 5 years, I actually feel as if I'm in control and no longer feel as if I'm a slave to consumerism and spend, spend, spend. I'm actually rediscovering all the things that I really love to do like cooking and baking etc and I'm loving it.Virgin CC £1,738.84 Barclays O/D £32,012.24
Total debt £33,751.08 as at 2.1.13
Short term goal - pay off Virgin CC by end of Jan 2013:eek:0 -
No 21 checking in. I did okay in 2012 and paid off over £5k. This is a lot for me as I only have my own income and 2 kids to keep. I think I got the balance okay and we didn't really do without much. I think I am so embedded into money saving that I just find it a normal way of life now. My DD is now working and DS has apart time job which definitely helps as they rarely need money from me.My Mum always helped me out a lot but she died in July. The hole she has left is still massive but she was here until the kids grew up a bit and I reckon she knew we would all be fine and she could go.She was like their other parent and we all miss her horrendously but she was so ill it would have been selfish to want to hold onto her. Anyways, I intend to halve my debt this year, not sure how mind you, but I will try my best.
Good luck everyone xx5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -

Hugs m-i-t. We lost my mum three years ago, my kids were only small and I wish she'd been around to see them grow. Be gentle on oyurself and give yourself time to grieve, and also to get past all the "firsts" over the next year.Long haul supporter #290POAYDBX2014 #043LBM Dec 2011 Debt £51K Debt Nov 2014 £42K0 -
please can you add me to the list??? In it for the long haul with little patience. It's like a monkey on my back!
I doubt I'll get through it unscathed or without slip ups along the way.

Will do recurrent Ostrich. Was okay over the festive except for Christmas Eve which was horrendous. I cried most of the day in work and then all evening BUT in the morning I was fine so I was glad that I had cried my eyes out all day and got it out my system for another while. Absolutely. I remember standing in the card shop looking for a mother's day card for my mother in law, 6 months after we lost my mum and I just sobbed. Then the first xmas when I had to buy my dad a "dad" card, rather than a "mum and Dad" one, and I sobbed. And the first one of the kids birthday when they got a card from "grandad", I sobbed. And on my birthday when no-one phoned me first thing in the morning to sing happy birthday to me. It does get easier, and I can now talk about her without bawling my eyes out.Long haul supporter #290POAYDBX2014 #043LBM Dec 2011 Debt £51K Debt Nov 2014 £42K0
