Wow Antonic and Millionaire in Training! I was going to say how lucky both are but that would be wrong. It isn't down to luck, it is down to good management (post LBM) and sheer determination, well done! Hopefully, in around 5 / 6 years time, when DD is grown up, I can put the same focus onto debt clearing and follow your examples:j
What a fantastic sense of achievement you will both feel very soon!:beer:LBM August 2011. DFD somewhere post [STRIKE]2025[/STRIKE]2022

I think my DFD is around 6-7 yrs at the moment, want to clear it before DS1 hits university in just under 6 years - does that count as a long haul? Seems like it to me! Just starting out on a DMP with CCCS for just over £41K and there is only little old me to pay it offLBM:1/1/12Debts @ LBM:£43,546  Debts now: £9,486  78% PAIDFound YNAB 1/2/14 - the best thing EVER!0

Can I ask some advice please fellow Long-haulers?
OH and I were discussing debts generally the other day. He then offered to either take out a non-secured personal loan or do a 0% BT to one of his CCs to help me out. :undecided
He already has some CC debts himself, but they are all on 0% deals. None of mine are, so some months I am paying 120 quid interest. I should add here that I am not in a position to be getting 0% deals myself at the moment.
It's a very kind offer, but financially we have always been very independent, no linked accounts etc. He knows I'm in a lot of debt, but not the exact amount. We are a very solid couple, been together for a few years now, but I do worry about:
- what would happen if we ever did split up
- if this would link us financially through credit agencies - hardly fair that he is seen as more risky just because of my stupid past
- Plus his parents would go mad if they found out.
Financially he is in a much more secure position than me, and he is trying his best to persuade me, but I am unsure. I know it's a lucky position to be in, but I just can't decide. I suppose partly it's shame, he already helps me out in so many ways. Can I get your thoughts please good people?0 -
oh that's a toughie. I know a friend of mine alowed her husband to get out a loan and pay off her cc's. Worked for them.5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.000 -
I agre e with mit, this is a tough one. How would the change in 'financial balance' impact on your relationship? If you decided to go ahead (and it's a very generous offer) could you pay off the balance before the 0% period ends?

I'm more concerned about you maybe feeling beholden to him in some way (you mention feeling shame that he helps you out in other ways). It sounds like you have a good, solid relationship and he clearly wants to help you which I think is lovely. I'd be tempted to go for it but I know I'd need to keep my feelings of 'I'm not worthy' in check!
Don't know if this helps? If not, please ignore my ramblings! Good luck with whatever you decideSealed pot challenge no 1521

Thanks MsDaisy and millionaire for your advice. It is hard to know what's best to do.
He said something really sweet the other day, like 'I love the whole package of you, including the 99% awesomeness, but also the 1% silly debts" which I thought was an amazing thing to say. I am a lucky lucky lady.0 -

Welcome! We have similar levels of debt, and will be here for about 4 years, as long as no unexpected extra things come out of the blue to bite us on the bum!Long haul supporter #290POAYDBX2014 #043LBM Dec 2011 Debt £51K Debt Nov 2014 £42K0 -
@recurrent-ostrich - I like how your signature shows the % of debt paid off. Do you have a bit on a spreadsheet or a calculator tool that works this out or do you just work it out with your own calculator? I like the idea of seeing the % growingSealed pot challenge no 1521
