Hello all its been a while so please forgive i havent read back or anything!!! Hope everyone had great christmasses and are looking forward to less debts in 2011 :D well done for all we have achieved!!!

Today I have had a great dfw day. I applied for a cc (wait a min hear me out lol) and was accepted (this is my first ever cc - which may lead you to ask why am I here - I am tackling oh's debt mountain.) with a lovely limit of 2300

I can now balance transfer the amount from oh's evil virgin CC and save 900 over the next year on interest and he/we pay off at least 2 thirds of the actual balance (instead of a tenner a month lol!!! wahoooo

I know that some people (esp my mum) will think Im crazy getting a card in my name to transfer that much from someone else but he is my oh and I look at al his financial problems as OUR problems so for me id rather attack as a team than let him struggle - plus saving him money now will equal an extra special expensive engagement ring in the future :P

    Hello Everyone

I joined this tread a long time ago and have read it regularly but I'm not much of a poster really.

I have feel motivated again after reading through the last few pages this afternoon and would like to post more regularly if that's ok?

I have been plodding away with my debts this year nearly paying off one (two more payments to go) and keeping up with the others, but I really need to hit them in the next few months as I am due my first baby in May.

I feel the help and support you all give to each other will help me to get more done. You are a very inspiring bunch.

Wishing you a Happy New Year and hope to get to know you all in 2011.

  • Happy new year to all of you! I am really feeling focused on clearing debt in 2011 so am going to keep plodding on with DMP whilst saving money to make additional payments to hopefully clear them quicker. I hope that lloyds and GE will seel us on so maybe the interest will stop being added on. My Natwest od should be cleared in 4 mths and then i can focus on every thing else. My car has gone back to VW so that has saved some money.

Hopefully this positivity will last all 2011

  • I have paid off my last installment today so it took me 8 years to clear my debts. I agree that it's depressing when you're in debt for that long.

  • Well firstly a very happy 2011 to everyone (well in three hours but the cava may be gone by then lol!)!
Secondly a massive well done to hypno. When I posted for the first time all those years ago she was one of the first to reply so has a special place in my heart and I know that debt freeness has not come without pain and injenuity so well done you! yay the day when you can go out and buy a delicious paid of boots and not worry! Well done hypno!
Well done debtshurt! Dont know much about your story but congratulations!
So this year of debtbusting has been carp for me; a year of uncertainty re job/career as was unsure if I would loose both and the salary that went with it so that meant paying mins and then something of a celebratory spend with relif when i kept job and career but now time to get back on track! So my goals are much the same as always - loose weight and pay debt off! looking forward to the year ahead!!
We can do it - sometimes we wont do brilliantly but we'll all help pick each other up and make our long journey to being debt free! As hypno evidences - it can be done!

  • Might as well add me (us) to it, we've got about £18k or so to clear now (in our name) but some of that is parents cards that they've got for us that we pay off too (better rate of interest).

We have kept up to date with all our payments and I've done a snowball and if we stick to it we'll be debt free in 30 odd months. We are starting by cutting up the Capital One card (£1100 - 34.9%) and then overpaying, I finished paying back a Barclays loan this year (£1400 @ 24.9%) as did the wife (Natwest £3000 ish @ 12.9%) however I'm self employed and sadly lost a wonderful contract that was £600 a month so the £120 Natwest repayment had to go towards living costs and the like.

I'm comitted to paying the £61 (Barclays) to other debts and I've put it into my snowball for that affect, any extra work I do via mystery shopping I'm paying into a seperate bank account with HSBC away from my main acct so that I can just pay that straight off the debt without it being swallowed up by anything else.
