Well 2010 not good on the debt busting front due to a big change on the house hold front. Still in a better place now and should be able to make a big impact this year.
Hope you all well will aim to keep up to date with this thread:j0 -

Long Hauler number 5.......reporting in to say the light at the end of the tunnel has been reached.
Last week I cleared the last of my debt.....so am finally debt free.
It was, indeed, a long haul - owing over £100k 5 years ago, there were times when I never thought I would reach this point.
But with the support from the boards and those that post, I have done so, and I thank everyone of you, whether you are posting frequently, or rarely, you can be sure that someone somewhere on here is getting support just from the fact they can see they are not alone.
Keep going guys - it may be a long haul, but it is certainly not forever.

WOW!!! Am so impressed!! Being only a sporadic visitor to these boards can you tell me how to read your diary? If a) there is one and b) you don't mind? I'm really in need of some inspiration at the moment. Am on a DMP and after a lightening start am now seriously struggling....any advice!! Have only got 18 months to go (assuming DFD is correct and preditors don't start playing silly beggers) but I think it's almost as you see the end it gets hardest...so any advice gratefully received.
But again - WOW and well done, what an amazing feeling it must be and how strong YOU must be!!!!

Hello - hope you regulars will forgive me for being a bit of a lurker and only jumping in when I need help - but I really do need some advice and would welcome any help. I've just started a new thread but thought would post it here too (really sorry if there's some etiquette that I don't know). Anyway - here it is:
i - am hoping someone out there will give me some good advice.
I've been on a DMP for 18 months - after having got myself so far in over my head I really didn't know what to do. It's been a godsend and for the first time in years my debt is going down - yay!! I've got about another 18 months to go. Apart from a few rubbish moments, I think I'm on track to reach that. But...
My partner doesn't know (nor does anyone in fact). I've kept it from him as he is the kind of guy who hates debt and I think he would freak out. I have managed to keep it to myself by simply being frugal and luckily with some careful planning (i.e. asking family to contribute with vouchers for bdays, lots of ebaying etc) I've got there - even though we live together!!
BUT - we have just got engaged and I don't think it's right anymore for him to not know. I don't expect him to help me (even though I am sure he would) and am actually quite proud of having reduced my debts by 50% in such a short space of time. All my debts were accrued before we met so they really shouldn't have to fall to him at all.
I am not too worried about paying for a wedding yet, as we don't plan to actually get married for 2 years (by which time I should be debt free) but I don't want to drag him down.
SO...I guess I need to tell him. But how? I am so scared he will think I've a) been keeping a big secret from him (true I guess) and b) if he hasn't dumped me after finding out - I know he will try to help me pay my debts off - which I don't want as this is my debt alone.
I would be grateful for any advice anyone might have.
Thank you so much in advance - and Happy New Year.

Londonfraggle - I am at work so not supposed to be posting, so can't do a long response, but am sure that you will get answers from others. What I will say, though, is that you are dealing with your debt, so you can say to OH "this is the situation but THIS is what I am doing about it".....which is a whole lot easier than saying "this is the situation, and I have no idea how I got here or what I do next". good luck with it x
In the meantime, this is the link to my latest diary in which i finally get debt free - it also contains in the first couple of pages a link to my very first diary....although there are a total of 13 in all :rotfl:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi Londonfraggle
I think you have done so well and Im sure your OH will think so too. I would sit him down and explain what you have said here and although he may panic at first he will come round.:j0 -
Hi all and welcome london fraggle, hypnos advice is good the fact that you are doing something about it is much better totake sometimes than just dropping the news of debt you have done well to hide it so far good luck
xx Hypno lovely news to read that you have cleared the final hurdle and what a start to 2011 keeps us long haulers motivated
