  • Hello and good luck to all the long haulers out there, it is my first post on this section and I hope to be debt free (other than my mortgage) by 2013, a rough calculation in 2008 it would have taken a £150k lottery win to pay the debts off, now about £80k. I hope to have three debts paid off by March two business and one personal debt. 2012 will see my largest debt gone, hopefully with the rest following on.
  • wow thats quite an achievement so far. Best of luck with this

annibee. That's brilliant. I have a job and doubt I will manage anywhere near that. No doubt I will pay that out but the interest will eat up a lot of it. Good for you. You should be well chuffed. x

Thanks MIT I think because of how much we owe it doesnt feel like a great deal but your right we should feel good about it

we'll be paying a lot more than that out but ive done just the calculation of how much more than the interest we will pay.

Im just happy to get rid of oh's evil virg!n card as the apr on that was a whopping 30.3% and the balance was 3500 mid last year - I am smug knowing that this month I am transferring the remaining 2700 to 2 bt cards at 0% for 8 and 10 months which means at last the payments we can afford will finally cover more than the interest!!

We also have oh's car for sale so hopefully whatever we get for that will give us another good dent in the debt and I am now hoping to achieve us debt free status (apart from the mortgage) by 2013 which will allow us to move house and hopefully rent out our current house for extra income.

I am a woman on a mission!!! Lets hope I achieve my first year of targets to make sure im on track.

hi nice to see people chatting on here again
I have very much fallen off the wagon so to speak as OH has not had a job for 3 months and a lot of stupidity on my behalf. It's nice to know that you can have kids whatever your debt as I would be waiting about 10 years to be debt free! I'm just gonna plan a baby as soon as both our job situations are stable.

Thanks happytobedebtfree glad we're not the only ones being punished by virg!n lol. Your bro osunds really helpful!! and your right it makes all the difference for instance when we paid 85 before we were only paying off 5 of the balance!!! now we can make same payment and pay off 85 its great lol

soma - there is no good time to have a baby im afraid but waiting till you have stable jobs is definately a good thing. We did the same then oh was made redundant and his last day is tomorrow and he simply cannot get another job we are trying everywhere and mines under threat of redundancy so I may lose some maternity pay everything seemed so perfectly planned at the time lol falling off the wagon happens sometimes I guess sometimes you need to do that to give yourself a kick up the bum to get going again! hopefully your oh will find something soon

  • well I had thought my DFD was away at end of 2015 but when I was playing about with the snowball in the wee small hours I discovered a few things that have brought it back to 2014. I can be paid off in 36 months instead of over 50 months. I cannot believe it could be that close. It will be a slog though but I am going to go for it with all guns blazing. Well aren't we all motivated. xx
