lol good job you checked then!!! I dont have oh's set up on dd's because I like to work out what we can afford first and then pay it like that (always more than the min)

I phoned all oh's creditors and wrote to them a few months ago as we luckily did know that his job was coming to an end and they said anything they can offer will affect credit rating which to be honest ive worked too hard to keep ok ill do anything to prevent that.

we've had some interest in oh's car today (priced stupidly low for the quick sale) so hopefully if we can manage to get that gone and be ok this month.

I just got a cc with a large limit on - this was supposed to bt a large amount off the highest
interest cc but as its 0% on purchases also if I have to use it for shopping for next couple of months then so be it. as car ins needs to be renewed I can also put first payment on that too so thats another 180 less to be paid out of money. ive also saved a few hundred for my maternity leave (supposed to be for later on when I lose my generous maternity pay) so that might just pull in together enough for us to last a few months in which time hopefully oh will get a job.

Im just grateful that I tackled oh's debt as soon as I found out about it last year as have already reduced it by 25% and made his monthly minimums a lot less so if we do have to just make the minimums it is possible.
I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

  • THere you go I knew you were made from sterner stuff.

Happy I got caught out with that once too. I had paid cc early to stop me spending the money and they took it out anyway. You need to check their sites and see whether any early payments count towards dd or not. We all learn lessons as we go on this beautiful journey we are on ( sarcasm sarcasm)
5 Year plan. April 2020 to June 2025- CC and mortgage free by time I'm 60
    Currently CC £23,674.36 /£14,895.41/£14315.42
    Mortgage £28,214.65/ £26,254.71/ £25,746.43
    By end 2020 I want CC at £ 19,000.00.
By end 2021 I want CC at £10,000.00
  • What a start to the new year - we knew we'd use the cards back up to limit (as they always are) due to Christmas and the like, driving back from IKEA (using our gift vouchers to buy a bed for our daughter) and the car behind is right up my rear end, I change gear and well it won't change, revs alarmingly as it won't go in, then I can't get it into gear so manage to get it over on dual carriageway.

Wife in back says try turn it off and try again, will not go into gear for love no money, get call out (£85 on MIL's c card she has for us, there's enough on there as it is :( ) and he takes us to garage that I know. Bobbed over with keys today, reckons it's the clutch that's gone but cannot be sure that it won't be a gearbox issue as well.

£520 for clutch and labour (4.5hrs) and then they have to look at the gearbox, if there's any movement with the main shaft then that has to go off for repair and review (£65). Hopefully it's just a clutch that needs doing - 07 Focus done 75,000 miles so its likely to be that as you can't select gears and car doesn't judder when bringing it to biting point.

What a wonderful start - £600 adrift before we even start (albeit on a 0% card that we pay down).

We've just managed to scrape £20 to get the overdraft down below limit as a few cheques came out, disaster. We are also on with a PPI claim for the wife, she's just got to ok the wording and we'll get that sent back.

  • well Lloyds have sold our OD to Wescot. Updated CCCS online today and will write to Wescot to advise them that CCCS have a payment plan in place and to speak to them. Everything else seems to be ticking along at the moment. Need some new underwear so have asked In laws for undies for my birthday ha ha FIL's face was a picture...

Debt free day is 2020 but we are aiming to work on that once we have sorted out money once my maternity allowance stops in march..
Robert - that sucks about your car. Hubbies car needs some repiars after i mangled it on a gate - don't ask!! But need to pay the £150 excess and don't have that spare right now!!!!

  • I hear that people do want their debts from Lloyds selling on as the Debt companies are easier to deal with and more receptive to the lower settlement figure and the like?

Well, i just phoned the CCCS for a review and have now upped my monthly payment from £150 to £315!! Eeeek! It is gonna be tight but i have done all my sums and we should be ok as long as nothing major goes wrong. Our new DFD is Jan 2014!! How fab does that sound??? :D (shame it won't be though as payment will have to drop when we have another baby *fingers crossed*)
The CCCS lady on the phone was sooooooo lovely. I nearly cried. She praised me for working so hard over the last few years and for sticking with it when things got tough. Bless her! I really needed to hear that.

I am just praying that my work contract gets renewed in March so that we can continue paying this much. If i lose my job it is gonna drop right down again. But can't think about that right now. Onwards and upwards!!

Good idea, I tend to leave the dd's set up in case anything goes awry with regard to the missing of minimum payments then overpay manually when I get paid, usually by £20 - £30. We have to get out of the cycle of using the cards again though, we are planning meals far more effectively, Morrions do a lovely 'fresh ideas' x2 burgers with a 3 cheese thing - down to £2 at the minute, we are going to buy those when we get paid for the month and put them in the freezer, same with the joints for the Sunday dinners we have, we'll get that from Costco though.

We've run out of food (lol) and get paid Saturday with some tax credits so we'll stock up, we've already made a resolution not to go mad at Christmas, we spent £180 on shopping for the month (usually £80, there were some pressies in there) but nothing major - obscene really.

Fingers crossed for the job! Is it a public sector role? Is there relative confidence or  about the renewal with everyone?

    Hi Long Haulers.

I signed up to this thread and forum a couple of years ago, but have been absent for almost a year. I'd like to join in again though please, if you'll still have me :-)

Last year was a tough one for me. My boyfriend of 8 years and I broke up, we have two mortgages, I was finishing my PhD (now done, the one good thing to happen!), we both owed a lot of money, and I didn't get paid for 5 months. My debt busting efforts disappeared in a haze of no money, being stressed, tired and run down. Over Christmas I got to spend time with my family, and wanted to start the new year by getting the finances sorted again. Our other flat (that we let out, in negative equity, can't sell) is currently empty and neither my ex or I have any spare money, and can't really afford to live anymore. So the night before last I filled out the form on CCCS website, and will call tomorrow to talk to them. I think I can't do it on my own anymore, as I'm just treading water.

So, that's my story (very brief version). I did have a diary on here somewhere so I will try and do a SOA and see if anyone can help me trim the fat. I am sick of being broke all the time, unhappy and not sleeping. I hope this is the time where I can really sort everything out and hope that people on here will provide the motivation when I have none.

    xx

p.s. I will also update my signature once I have the exact numbers...
