My self esteam has taken a battering through the debt free thing even while Ive been so proud of what Ive achieved - Ive finally started to try and work on rebuilding it, not big spends (and definately no credit!) but Im setting myself a little aside a month for "cause Im worth it" saturday, even if its just a trip to the dentist and spending some boots points on some posh conditioner and a nail varnish to do my own nails.

Hi clarab, I can identify with that feeling of low sef esteem that's for sure. I find joy in small things now rather than chasing some unreal feeling of big purchases/

What you're doing is all part of the journey to get debt free.

Be proud of how far you have come - I have along way left but hey, I got myself into this mess and I have to get myself out of it - because we are worth it!

Oops, ISOM, I read that as "cooking friends"! That'd be a very tough month - I usually stick to rice when it's that bad but then I'm a veggie :rotfl:

Just spent the weekend at my friends. Other that the deisel, I never spent a penny. Though did take my veggie box to cook dinner. But she got the wine. It's all good.

And I spent most of the weekend on the trampoline with one of her children (he has ADHD - he never stops!) so it was fun and healthy. :T

However, now absolutely shattered I might have to go to bed already! I don't have the energy to look at my spending diary and budget - might have to watch Dancing on Ice and leave the hard thinking for tomorrow! :)

  • I hope everyone had a good day.

We woke up to about 4" of snow this morning. I was an hour and a half late for work this morning, but at least I made it in, some who live closer than I do didn't bother!

Three days and counting till payday...its been a loooooong month.

Today was a nsd, I didn't even buy a newspaper....(I was too scared to go out in my lunch hour just in case I slipped on the snow....lol)! Came home to a lovely lamb dinner cooked by my DH.........I think he had a guilty conscience after being a bit mean with me last night. Although he's mostly supportive, sometimes he cant resist sniping about me building up these debts. I know how stupid I've been..........I know I've been living beyond my means.......AND I know I've got too many handbags........i just don't need reminding all the time!

I just need to pop down to the garage for some petrol now.....(that doesn't count as a spend, does it?)..then I can relax and do nothing till bedtime :).

Keep up the good work everyone........have a good week x

Hi all, well spent quite a bit the last few days so it's time to knuckle down & get stuck into the debts again. Supposed to be going to a friend's(well more a friend of a friend's) engagement do on Saturday but we are going to give it a miss. We have decided that the only time we go out for the time being is to special occasions & even then we will go to the party's of people who would expect us to be there rather than people who won't miss us IYKWIM! Got an expensive month ahead with MOT, family birthdays & Mother's Day so March will be a month of trying to tighten belts as much as possible. Thanks for reading & keep chipping away!!

  • Hi everyone. Not a bad day today, but thank goodness its payday tomorrow!!

Today is my second month of serious debtbusting, and I feel like I'm struggling a bit this week. I went to the cashpoint today in my lunchhour and was almost down to £0. Before Christmas, I would have just stuck whatever I wanted to buy on my cc...........but I didn't (or couldn't 'cos I've given my cc to my DH to guard!). I just felt really angry with myself, because, if I didn't have these debts to pay, I'd have plenty spare at the end of the month. To cap it all, DH tells me my car needs new tyres, so it looks like the money I'd set aside for Cardiff this weekend will have to be spent on the car.

Last year when we went to the rugby, I would have just left DH in the pub with his pals and indulged in some serious retail therapy whether I had the cash in my purse or not. Sometimes, changing the way you think about money is really hard !!

I can only agree Snowdonlily! Was mystery shopping in the city centre today, which led me into the path of temptation... and because I had a £10 voucher, I thought, hey, it's ok... so one dress later (and admittedly only £7.50 rather than its original full £32), I got myself the hell out of town as I felt quite despondent. Realised I don't go into townbecause I still want to spend, and it's only because I can't that I don't! But I guess it's good that I no longer carry my credit card in my wallet and that by the time this debt is busted, I'm bound to be horrified by the non-MSE price of things ;)

  • Hello all!

I applied for that job a while ago, but never heard anything more about it, which was surprising :(. Instead, my workload has shot through the roof. I've been offered considerable overtime, which I've taken, but all I will be doing for the next 12 weeks is work. And then I start another additional job for a month straight after that. I feel like money is driving everything at the moment. I wish I was a bit further down the line, owing considerably less. It truly is a long, joyless haul here at the moment!

On a plus side, it is pay day so I've paid another chunk off the dreaded Virgin card. DH also settled the remaining £17 on one of his student loans, so I suppose that's a debt down (:j) with 7 (much, much, much bigger ones ) to go.

    Happy weekend everyone .
  • Niccatw - I always want to spend too. It was the essential Saturday afternoon activity! I try to avoid going into town now. At least I'm still rather fat after having DS, so I don't have the clothes-buying impulse to contend with! I avoid it like the plague. Those mirrors! :D
  • Lol well dine on the payments and well don in avoiding spending. Must get back to sleep back on my nights. Have a nice weekend I'm hoping I can see my little doggy over the weekend he's been in hospital since Tuesday I've not been able to see her :(
