I have another three and a half years to go. We started with 90K of debt and have now got it down to 60k.
Have just hit a bit of a slump and really feeling it hard going just now. Life seems to be a bit on hold and am feeling a bit down over the whole thing.
I know that it wont last long and that we are totally doing the right thing for us but just wondered if any of the 'long haulers' have any coping tips for times like this?
Thanks
Hello
Try setting little targets forget the 60k take 1 cc at a time or 1000 chunks. Look at somw of the challenges on here such as ebay listing or the grocery challenge on the old style thread.
Im similar in that I cant seem to get below 13k without having a set back. I know its a smaller figure than yours but Im only clearing 250 a month without the set backs so itll be a good while yet but I am getting there:j0 -
ald sometimes you ve just got to get through a day! Know that sounds weird but spending is like an addiction and, a bit like diets, youve got to eat but also to make changes as well...I've been here quite a while and am unrecongisable as the person who started but over time, have changed. Still not perfect and have a long way to go but am getting there...took me quite a while to realise that my whole way of living had to change and that doesent happen overnight! Feel free to join us (would you like a number?) for the ride...
Not quite a nsd as had to but ingredients for pudding I was making (ginger and honey cheesecake) and a couple of house bits...other than that been making my quilt and a crochet blanket for a friends baby (Weezl) due soon...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Glad to hear you are feeling better today - when I read your post, I didn't think wow - you owed 90K - I thought WOWEE you paid off 1/3 already:j:j:jFabby, fantastic wowzer. Great advice from others, I know exactly how you all feel as although we ourselves 'appear' to pay off a lot of debt (15K in 10 months) we have a lot of debt therefore a long way to go and it's hard..... And I am tempted into spending money, which is the reason we are here to support each other. However - I knew it must be working when I found myself cutting the end off a tube of toothpaste to get the last drop out - when the said toothpaste only cost 17p:rotfl:New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear0 -

Hi everyone, we're back from Cardiff...........tired but happy! What a game that was, I thought I was going to have kittens......and that the old man sitting next to me was going to kiss me!! ( and I don't mean my DH.....he was at the other side of me!) :rotfl:
Thanks ISOM I didn't see that post, or I would definitely have asked you for some nice restaurants. On Friday night we ate at Zerodegrees which was nice and quite reasonably priced, last night we found a little Italian restaurant called Dizzy Llama which was in a basement just off the main street. That was absolutely fab, I would definitely go there again.
I didn't put anything on my cards, but I did spend a little (but only cash!). It was really good to catch up with DS1. He got his exam results while we were there and he's done very well, hopefully on course for a first class degree :T
I was also glad to see that my house was in one piece when we got back.....that is I haven't found anything broken..................yet!!
Hope everyone else had a good weekend xTotal debt at LBM £26k+Total debt now £16,494.40Tesco CC 11/2/11 Total - £1,387.20 - Now £00 -
Hey Snowdonlily! I too was having kittens watching the game! Though it's fair to say I can't really repeat any of what I was shouting at Scotland!!!!! Suffice to say, I have now disowned them and will be routing for you guys. I hope you do exactly the same to France - now wouldn't that be fabulous!
Ald - good to hear you're feeling better! You've done amazingly well so far! It's a huge emotional roller-coaster. I have days where I just want to cry and wonder why I'm bothering and yet other days where I get hugely excited about tiny savings and achievements! I'm with Happytogetdebtfree; when it all gets too much, I find coming on here to have a moan and a rant raelly does help as there's always some-one around to point out the positives when you aren't up to it yourself! Cheers guys!
And loving the idea of decanting the shampoo into a designer bottle:rotfl:

Argh. No I'm still putting that off! Though I have now found out they need the letter as it's the first time I've claimed so I don't need to try and keep calling.
But I don't know how much I've paid over the years. Though my latest bright idea is to go through my statements for last year to see where my money was going so I'll maybe find out that way! If I can actually psyche myself up to do that - not sure I want to know!!! I keep thinking I've stopped taking money out the cashline and spending it willy nilly - but bank statements might tell me otherwise so I'm a bit scared!!
Keep pestering me though 'cos it's really daft I've not done it yet!Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Hi you do not need to trace through statements I didn't need to. It's a 120 allowance per year. For buying of shoes washing of clothes buying of socks and tights. Il look at my letter you also need to say that you pay a yearly professional charge of how much. You phone to change your tax code over the phone for this year or I guess you can just write you can only claim 5 years back so 600 quid. You make that clear say you understand they may not pay all in a lump sum and are happy to have your tax code changed to reimburse the loss in monthly chunks. If you want il email you my letter just removing my personal nformqtion
it did the trick for me x
